Today (Oct. 11) Wale finally dropped his first full length LP in a hot minute in Wow… That’s Crazy, and right on cue the DC rapper swung through The Breakfast Club with a somewhat defensive demeanor.
Sitting down with the morning trio, Wale proved to be one of the most entertaining interviews in a minute as he deflected questions about his love life throughout the interview while questioning everyone’s motives behind their questions. Even still though Wale went into an unknown Grammy experience, his anxiety issues, and why he feels like he’s a “light” in the music industry.
Here are the 8 things we learned from Wale on The Breakfast Club.

Wale believes that women (whether right or wrong ones) will always teach you a lot about yourself. He’s also “always been big on women’s intuition.” That being said Wale won’t confirm or deny that he’s in a relationship no matter how hard the morning trio tried to get him to admit something. Even though there’s rumors about him having a “lightskinned girlfriend,” later in the interview he refers to himself as an “eligible bachelor” when explaining why he clubs by himself. Then near the end of the interview he says “shout out to my lady though.” Dios mio…

Before Megan Thee Stallion became the star she is now, Wale was one of the first rappers to notice her talent and says “everything that I told her was gonna happen is happening now and I’m very proud of her.”

Wale admits that he wants to take home that elusive Grammy award. That being said, he remembers walking behind Sandra Bullock and while photographers went crazy taking pics of her, once he got in the spotlight only a few cameras cared he was there.

Regardless of how you might feel about Wale’s presence in the music game, he feels he is a “light” in this industry. “I tell myself all the time “Bro, you really a light to these people. Whether they love you or hate you, you a light. In this industry, you are a light.” Coming from DC, going through what I went through, being counted out four or five times and still persevered, I’m special. I’m different.” Can’t be mad at that.

Touching on the subject of mental health, Wale says he doesn’t like to use the term “mental illness” and prefers to call it mental “wellness.” He also feels that people who have a bad day and say they have anxiety or depression don’t exactly know what it’s really like to suffer from said symptoms. “It’s hard, bro! Like, gathering my thoughts to do something that’s very basic or having breathing complications cause you’re in the grocery store and you know you being followed and you not really in the mood to take pictures, and you thinkin’ about what’s going on with the IRS and your mother and all these other things. These are real things.”

Wale admits that “one of the main things about my anxiety comes from what peoples perception of me is before I even met them.” He then went on to explain that his “social issues” come into play whenever someone makes him feel uncomfortable about him not remembering having met them before as the last thing he wants is for people to think he’s an “a$$hole.” People will think that, too.

Wale admits that if he was to date a woman who wants to have some kind of cosmetic surgery if it’s to make her happy (not for him), he’d come out of pocket to pay for it.

Talking about referring to himself as a G.O.A.T. rapper, Wale says that if “you intentionally left me off your” Top 50 Greatest Of All Time list then “your list is not valid and every real ni**a know that, period.”
