For years Senator Kamala Harris’s Presidential run has been rumored and now that she’s officially in the race for the White House she’s become both a favorite candidate for potential voters and political target for haters. Recently the U.S. Senator of California sat down for an interview with Charlamange Tha God and DJ Envy on The Breakfast Club and addressed a few fake news stories and explained why she chose to throw her hat in the presidential ring.
Touching on subjects from her Blackness to the criticism she got as district attorney of San Francisco, Kamala Harris makes the case for being the strong Black woman that America needs that’s not named Michele Obama.
Here are the 7 things we learned from Kamala Harris on The Breakfast Club.
1. Runnin’
Kamala Harris decided to run for President because she’s seen that the last two years of Trump’s administration has done nothing but hurt and divide Americans across the board. So instead of sitting down and complaining she wants to get up and do something about it. Funny how the laziest President in history sure knows how to motivate people to get off their asses, huh?
2. Criticized For Trying To Help
When Kamala Harris created a re-entry initiative as district attorney of San Francisco, she got flack from democrats and republicans who told her “your job is to put people in jail. Not let them out of jail.”
3. Fake News Memes
As for those memes that suggest that Kamala Harris broke the state record for incarcerating Black men, she says it’s not true and encourages people to look up her record, which she stands by. As for the one saying she was born in Canada, Mrs. Harris says she was born in Oakland but went to high school in Montreal, Canada.
4. Black & Proud
Responding to the claims that she’s not Black enough, Kamala simply states “I think they don’t understand who Black people are,” and after explaining the beauty in the diversity of Black people adds “I’m not gonna spend my time trying to educate people about who Black people are.”
5. Agenda For The Black Community
Kamala wants to push a “Lift Act” which amongst other interesting things will rework the current tax code (the one that’s currently sabotaging middle-class tax returns to help millionaires and billionaire pocket much more money than ever before) and help “lift 60% of Black households out of poverty.” That MAGA crowd ain’t gonna wanna hear this one even if it does help them, too. They’re also going to be upset to hear that Kamala Harris supports some kind of reparations for African-Americans.
6. Mary Jane
Contrary to popular belief, Kamala Harris says she is in fact for legalizing Marijuana. She also wants to research the impact of weed on the growing human brain. And yes, she indulged in the ganja back in college.
7. Favorite Rapper
Kamala Harris’s favorite rapper today is Cardi B. How long before Tomi Lahren uses this bit of information to go on another Hip-Hop/political related rant?
