A week before Thanksgiving last month Anderson .Paak released his highly anticipated album Oxnard and while Dr. Dre isn’t exactly known for working with singers/rappers, people agree that the two do seem to have some pretty good chemistry together.

After rocking his musical performance this past weekend on Saturday Night Live, the rapper/singer decided to check the Breakfast Club where Angela Yee and DJ Envy continue to hold the fort down while Charlamagne Tha God is out sowing his royal oats (we kidding, y’all).

Touching on topics from how religion had him ditching Hip-Hop to his role in getting his father locked up, Anderson .Paak shows and proves that he’s really lived a life and it’s shaped him into the star he is today.

Here are the 7 things we learned from Anderson .Paak on The Breakfast Club.

1. Soul Survivor

At the age of 13 Anderson was introduced to church and took to it so hard that he threw away his Snoop Dogg album and other CD’s and began to bump Kirk Franklin and church music to save his soul. Naturally he ended up signed to Dr. Dre as an adult.

2. Papaz Song

As a child, AP unintentionally got his father locked up when he ran to his neighbors house after witnessing his father beating on his mother. They ended up calling the cops and his pops got bagged for domestic violence and other things that police ended up getting on him. He ended up doing 14 years. They later reconnected but unfortunately his father died shortly afterwards.

3. Mama Was A Hustler

Paak’s mother was able to get them up out the hood selling organic strawberries. Unfortunately their success relied on crop season and when it went bad they ended up struggling again. Unfortunately his mother ended up getting arrested for not reporting her Vegas winnings which she used to pay people back for money loaned to her.

4. Weed Worker

Interestingly enough Anderson was working on a weed farm and pocketing $150 per pound. Working there he learned that Latinos from different central American countries speak Spanish differently.

5. Chub Rock

Breezy Lovejoy was AP’s stage name before Anderson Paak. His brother called him Breezy because he was an overweight wind breaker and he later added Lovejoy to impress the ladies. What the hell ever happened to Ruben Studdard?

6. Dr. Dre

AP was introduced to Dr. Dre by some mutual friends while Dre was in the studio working on Compton. After they threw on Paak’s “Suede,” Dre let him do his thing on a few beats and eventually decided to fux with him.

7. Madlib Feature

Though Anderson Paak had confirmed that Madlib was going to be on the album he says that different people in his camp making different demands ended up having the track put on ice.
