For more than a decade Johan Hill’s been one of the culture’s favorite Hollywood stars and though he’s taken on more serious roles as of late we’ll always remember his quirky characters in Knocked Up, Super Bad and This is The End.
Today (Oct. 18) the actor turned director realized a dream of his when he swung through his favorite morning show The Breakfast Club to talk about all aspects of his life and promote his upcoming coming of age skater/Hip-Hop film, Mid90s.
Revealing things like his own personal Top 5 dead or alive list to how he fell in love with Hip-Hop, Jonah continues to remind the culture why he’s a potential racial trade target for Kanye West.
Here are the 8 things we learned from Jonah Hill on The Breakfast Club.

1. Hip-Hop Junkie
Jonah Hill says his older brother (R.I.P) was the one who got him into “arty” east coast Hip-Hop artists like A Tribe Called. Being that at the time the west coast Hip-Hop scene was mainly gangster rappers, Hill admits that his skateboarding self didn’t feel right imitating the gangster scene because “we weren’t gangster” so he fell in love with the woke Hip-Hop acts of the east.

2. Phat Beats
Being a fan of the culture, Hill says he used to make “crazy beats” on his MPC back in the day and went by Spindrom. He even used to dig into crates at Fat Beats to find samples for his tracks.

3. Interning
Trying to get into the Hip-Hop game, Hill actually interned for an indie rap manager when he was 15-years-old. He even says that while everyone was a jerk to him as an intern, this one dude named Ian was always nice to him. Once Jonah blew up he hired Ian to get down with his team.

4. Social Media
Jonah Hill admits that his younger self wouldn’t be able to survive in this social media age. “It’s poison, bro!” Imagine how people would’ve gotten on him about his weight during his Super Bad days. Interestingly enough Jonah admits that therapy and having someone to talk to “saved me.” Yeah, the young portly Jonah Hill wouldn’t have made through this era in one piece.

5. Weight Loss
That being said, Jonah won’t say whether he attributes his weight loss to health reasons or confidence issues, simply saying “I’m just tryin’ like every other human being.”

6. Top 5 List
Jonah’s Top 5 in no particular order: Big L, Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep, Gang Starr, Wu-Tang and Jeru The Damaja. Well, we guess that’ll make this a Top 6 list.

7. Breaking Racial Injustices
Jonah admits that he “needs to be better” when using his privilege to combat racial prejudice on a social level. Though he casts people of color in his films he knows that he can use his position to help but admits he needs help doing so and invites people to give him advice so he can “be of service.”

8. Kanye West
Like the rest of us, Hill “can’t get with” Kanye’s love and admiration for Donald Trump. He said even though he loves his music he couldn’t bring himself to watch that outlandish sit down Kanye had with Cheeto Jesus.
