Power, Season 5, Episode 10 When This Is Over

Source: Starz / power

Everything we watched has come to this. SPOILERS and heartbreak await you below on the season 5 finale recap of Power.

Trust is a premium commodity in the world of James St. Patrick and his cohorts. The bonds formed throughout the last five years are fortified in blood, honor and duty. Above all else, the characters on this show value self-perseverance over everything, and they’ll do whatever it takes to achieve their goal. Personal relationships do not preclude any of them from eliminating friends and foes by any means necessary. Tommy, Ghost, Tasha, and Angela utilized a variety of conniving schemes at the expense of the ones they love. So why would any of them bet on the other to cherish the needs of the many over themselves. This question have hovered over this season in the background, festering like a mortal wound. With Angela on the hot seat with RICO charges flying at her head at a rapid pace, she convenes the four pillars of the series in one room for the first time ever (as noted by show runner and Executive Producer Courtney Kemp) to decide how they eliminate their issues as a team. No one trusts anyone fully, but their freedom hinges on a willingness to have faith in the plan.

Angela devises a plan to clear her name and exonerate Ghost, Tommy and Tasha. Angela would convince Dre to frame Alicia Jimenez for the Lobos and Sandoval murders. Tasha would speak with Keisha to ensure she won’t snitch. Ghost would control Proctor so he stays in line also. All four conspirators would have to remain strong and unbreakable because if they stayed silent, the DA’s office wouldn’t have a case. Meanwhile, Mak and Saxe would press everyone associated with Ghost in order to get concrete evidence to arrest, and they now had the help of Terry Silver who wants to protect Tasha and take Ghost down.

The tragic flaw in the characters season lies in their hubris. They underestimate the people they want to manipulate and overestimate the strength of loyalty between each other.

Keisha is fed up with Tasha’s fake friendship. Tasha continues to press her about her unyielding loyalty with no regard for Keisha’s own struggles. Keisha begins to recognize Tasha’s compartmentalization of their relationship as one of necessity and not based on friendship. She plans to keep her mouth shut, but won’t have anything to do with Tasha anymore.

Proctor isn’t interested in snitching, but still holds his client Ghost’s freedom of utmost importance. Snitching isn’t his issue, it’s mitigating any dangers associated with his and Ghost’s name. The feds are working with Terry Silver and the only path Proctor sees is flipping on Tommy. Get immunity and implicate Tommy with Teresi in the murders to save himself. Later, Proctor tells Ghost that a woman gave a statement against him. The woman is Maria Suarez, but Proctor guesses incorrectly that it’s Angela, the woman who all along Proctor didn’t trust and begged Ghost to part ties with her. Ghost now has to contend with feelings of betrayal and disbelief. He wants to resolve this issue ASAP.

Dre agrees to implicate Alicia Jimenez in the Lobos/Sandoval murders, but has plans of his own. After the Jimenez unsuccessfully attempted to kill him, he craves protection and total elimination of his enemies. He tells 2-bit that he plans on implicating Ghost and Tommy instead, then he’ll flee towards Witness Protection with a lot of cash. 2-bit hates snitches of any kind, so he decides to freelance and link with Tommy to tell him Dre’s plan, Ghost’s involvement with the attempted hit on Mitic, and Kanan’s message to speak with Tommy if anything happens to the fireproof superthug. The team gets a win when they corner Dre in a warehouse during a shootout and the Feds “save” Dre by coercing him to sign the agreement against the Jimenez. Dre signs, Tommy gets sole control over the drug game in NYC and one loose end gets tied for now. During the motion to quash Silver’s testimony because of Dre’s confession, Silver shows up missing. Ghost strikes again.

Tommy’s distrust in Ghost gets fueled further when Saxe reveals Ghost and Angela leaked the information about Teresi’s snitching that got him killed, and the recording where Teresi says Tommy has nothing to do with the murders and snitched on Ghost. Tommy’s in a place where loyalty trumps love and blood. Keisha almost learned the hard way what riding against Tommy looks like. Ghost would soon find out the same.

Tasha and Tommy meet at Angela’s house to confront her about leaking Silver’s return and Teresi’s snitching to Ghost so they could “break team” and handle it themselves. They decided to “cancel” Angela once and for all. Angela extended her life and usefulness by mentioning the pictures and how if they are found, it would implicate everyone since she had access to get them. Tommy and Tasha give Angela a reprieve and leave Angela a heartbeat away from death.

Tommy visits Vincent to retrieve the pictures so he can destroy them. Vincent tells him that he got the pictures from Ghost and Ghost wanted Tommy to kill Teresi, and not the Italians. Tommy couldn’t fathom the amount of lies he’s heard from Ghost this season and decides to make one more stop. Ghost and Angela meet at their old high school to talk “old times”, whether their dream to be together is feasible, and to confront one another about testifying and Silver’s disappearance. Ghost lies to Angie about killing Silver, and things seem to be trending upward…Until Tommy shoots his shot, Angela pushes Ghost out of the way, and takes a bullet to the chest. Tommy was aiming for Ghost, but Angela will be the GOAT consolation prize. As the screen faded to black on season 5, and Ghost’s primal scream slowly evaporated into the ether, we wonder whether Angela will survive or become another fallen Power OG.
