7 Things We Learned From Lil Duval on The Breakfast Club

Unbeknownst to many (maybe?), Lil Duval’s been in the game for quite some time on his stand-up comedy grind and luckily for him the music game in the ‘10’s hands out contracts to comedians, social media stars, and even actors. All things that he’s well known for.

Now at the tender age of 41, Lil Duval is experiencing the life of a music star thanks to his summer ’18 smash hit “Smile B*tch,” but if you think his success has made his best life better, think again.

Chopping it up with the morning trio the comedian/singer straight outta Duval County, Florida opens about things like newfound stardom has interrupted his everyday best life to believing that Black people are the last thing on white folk’s minds.

1. Smile B*tch!

As big a hit as “Smile B*tch” is, interestingly enough DJ Envy convinced Duval to clean up the record. Though Duval didn’t want to do it he did want his daughter to sing. Now he has one of the biggest hits of 2018. Interestingly enough he says he was living his best life before the song broke out and now he can’t live on the humble anymore with the newfound fame and work that comes with it. He ain’t complaining though, just calling it how it is.

2. Label Deal

Lil Duval says that a record label offered him big money to sign with them but they wanted to lock him down for 10 albums. He immediately dismissed because he didn’t want to “give up my day job. My day job is to be funny.” He ended up signing with Empire because “they understand me. They get me.”

3. Real Love

Duval says he is in fact in a relationship and he “love this one this time for real. This one is special!” Turns out his new wifey is a decade old friend with benefits. Looks like there is the possibility of love down the road in those FWB relationships. Might be WAY down the road but down the road nonetheless.

4. Gray Livin’

While a lot of men his age are painting their gray hairs black, Lil Duval is happy with his salt-and-pepper goatee and is looking forward to having all gray facial hair.

5. Duval’s the Name

Lil Duval goes by “Duval” because he was tired of telling people where he was from. So he just decided to make his county of Duval, Florida his name.

6. Race Isn’t A Problem

Duval feels that white folks these days “don’t even think” about holding Black people back like that anymore. He must not be familiar with all the calls made to 911 by white people complaining about Black people breathing in 2018.

7. Mediocre Singer?

As for his singing gift, the “Smile B*tch” crooner admits that he doesn’t think he can sing too good. He just feels like he sounds good “amongst all the garbage” that’s playing on the airwaves. He might not be wrong there. Still a great song though.
