This weekend the third season of HBO’s culture favorite hit series Insecure finally premiers and sure enough the series star Issa Rae took the time out her busy schedule to drop by The Breakfast Club for a quickie.
Chopping it up with Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy, the Compton, LA mogul explains why fan favorite character Lawrence won’t be appearing this season (boooo), why she tweeted that Black women should date Asian men, and growing up around gang bangers in Compton.
Here are the 5 things we learned from Issa Rae on The Breakfast Club.
1. Lawrence O’Gone-O
Issa once again confirms that (Jay Ellis) Lawrence will not be on this season of Insecure because in real life people don’t keep up with their exes. That being said she admits that she’s gone back into old relationships because she’s a forgiving person and that people evolve and get a better understanding of things.
2. Black & Asian
Like the rest of us, Issa looks back at her old tweets and her old journal and bugs out at the things she used to write. With that being said she clarifies that when she wrote Black women should date Asian men back in 2010 it was simply a joke that people misunderstood.
3. Confidence is Key?
Apparently, Issa feels that Daniel has more “big d*ck energy” than Lawrence does on Insecure. Well thought out question, Angela Yee.
4. In The In Crowd Now
Thanks to her success, Issa Rae doesn’t feel like an awkward outsider anymore and feels like she “demands to be in” and feels “anxious and excited to do stuff.” A well-earned feeling. She even went big Wilma on everyone and threw a yacht party.

5. Compton
Growing up in Compton, LA, Issa Rae confirms that she used to hang out with gang members during her youth. She even called one of her old homies from the block for that Blood walk in Insecure. She says he memorized her with the Blood walk at a party when she was a teenager. He should’ve took advantage of his brazy legs and wifed her when he had the chance.
