Miguel’s been making women swoon with his silky smooth vocals ever since making his debut in at the beginning of the decade (feel old yet?). Though he’s been flying under the radar for quite some time the LA singer still gets burn on the airwaves and knows his fans are receptive to whatever he drops whenever he drops it.
Today the Mexican/African-American artist stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk about why his albums never sound the same, going to Mexico to meet his family, and his thoughts on Donald Trump.

1. No Two Alike
Speaking on why his albums tend to differ in directions and sounds, Miguel says his music evolves according to how he grows. That’s why his songs never seem to sound the same. That’s been both a gift and a curse depending on who you ask.

2. Mexican Side
Going to Mexico to meet get familiar with that side of his family had an impact on Miguel as he saw where his grandmother immigrated from to give her family a better life. Interestingly enough his grandmother used to sing on the radio with her sister back in Mexico. That explains where he gets his talent from and why he might be making a Spanish version of his latest album, War & Leisure.

3. Donald Trump
Miguel feels that Trump is a representation of “an old way of thinking” and “antiquated.” Miguel won’t call him a racist or bigot but does say “there’s all of those things in” what makes Trump who he is. He feels those kinds of things are in humans and we need to continue to evolve as humans to get past that.

4. Uneducated
He feels that people who aren’t “educated or empathetic to anyone else, you’re a victim of how you’ve been educated and your surroundings.” He thinks once people realize that everyone is striving for the same thing their will be a better understanding between people.

5. No Pictures
Miguel now declines fans asking to take a photo with him because a few years ago a fan took a picture with him only to turn around to accuse him of something. Now he picks and chooses which fans he’ll let take a flick with him. One bad apple ruined it all for everyone.

6. Engaged
Miguel says he’s now engaged for a hot minute to someone he feels is “a real teammate. Someone that’s been by my side that I’ma ride for and that really really loves me for me and I love her for her.” We should all be so lucky.
