T.I.’s been one of the rap game’s top Trap Rappers for more than a decade now and while his hustle game is superior to most, he also moonlights as a social activist for change (the man does serve on the Jobs and Opportunity, and Affordable Housing Subcommittees for Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms). So when Kanye went on his pro-Trump rants, T.I. needed to have a word with The College Dropout artist about his political views.
Stopping by The Breakfast Club, Tip shed some more light on Kanye’s current political views, emotional state, and what he’d tell Donald Trump if he ever met him.
Here are the 10 things we learned from T.I. on The Breakfast Club.
1. Packing Heat In The Chamber
Even though T.I. hasn’t put out any new solo material he says he’s still in love with the music and has “tons” or unreleased music in the stash. He simply says he hasn’t felt like putting anything out.
2. Kanye’s Blind Support of Trump
Tip says that the record with Kanye was recorded after 4 hours of talking with each other. T.I. says he thought Kanye had a hidden play behind his Donald Trump support but instead Ye told him “I’m a free thinker, man.” Though Ye said he didn’t agree with half of Trump’s policies, when Tip asked him about his thoughts on the travel ban, Ye answered his question with another question: What’s the travel ban? Speechless.
3. Unaware of Fan’s Reactions
When he asked Kanye about the people he hurt for backing Trump, T.I. says Ye was taken aback by the notion that people would be hurt by him having an opinion. Kanye told him he didn’t mean to hurt people. He also reveals that Ye is still very much affected by the passing of his mother, he just doesn’t show it.
4. That Damn MAGA Hat
As for Kanye rocking that MAGA hat, Kanye told Tip “Man, my subconscious spoke to my conscious and it just moved me to wear the hat.” After T.I. asked Ye if he knew what the hat represented, Ye responded with “Not when I wear it” liking it to how Black people took control of the “N” word. T.I. says he did have Kanye thinking about changing something on the hat to make it his own but then Kanye said “But no, that wouldn’t help me prove my point.”
5. Uniting The People for A Presidential Run?
Kanye told Tip he’s not a white supremacist and doesn’t support white supremacy. He even thinks that white supremacists and Black people wanting Kanye to stop rocking the confederate flag is enough to bring both races together. T.I. also says that Kanye is “dead da fuq serious” about running for President of The United States in 2024. Dead. Da. Fuq. Serious.
6. The Grand Hustle
For his competition show on BET The Grand Hustle, T.I. says he decided to hire an executive to a six-figure salary instead of making it an artist competition because he has enough artists already. He says his “infrastructure needs strengthening” as his empire continues to grow.
7. Meek Mill
T.I. feels that Meek Mill’s unjust sentencing “throws mud in the face of what we call American democracy” and called it an “abuse of power” that “reeks of privilege.”
8. Politics As Usual
As far as his political leanings, T.I. says that his “fundamental principals of his core values” push him towards the democratic party, but does say he doesn’t always co-sign everything on their agenda. That being said he does appreciate the moves that Republicans make that keep his bank account healthy. But at the end of the day he doesn’t have a problem voting Republican if the candidate has ideas that help the people for real.
9. OG Trapper
T.I. once again insists that “Trap Music” was born on August 19 2003 when T.I. dropped his sophomore album Trap Muzik. He says before him no one ever put those two words together for public consumption.
10. Donald Trump
Being that he works for the mayor of Atlanta, T.I. says that if the day comes when he has an audience with Donald Trump, he’s ready to ask him “What’s with the blatant disregard and disrespect to my people? Let’s talk about that.” He also says that he’s not doing any photo op’s with Donald.
