Mo’Nique is decades strong in the comedian game and has a strong following behind her, but when she called for the culture to boycott Netflix for lowballing her on a comedy special, she caught the wrath of the Internet.
Today the Academy Award winning actress stopped by the Breakfast Club with her hubby on the line to clear shed light on the situation with Netflix and at the same time check Charlamagne Tha God for giving her Donkey of The Day.
Here are the 6 things we learned from Mo’Nique on The Breakfast Club.
1. Netflix
Speaking on that lowball Netflix deal, Mo’Nique’s husband says that he and Netflix representatives were in the middle of negotiating when the phone line got cut. Later on Netflix said they had allegedly sent an offer that Mo’Nique’s camp never received and they had passed the time limit in which to accept or decline. Netflix execs also said that somehow Amy Schumer had the resume for her payday that Mo’Nique did not.
2. History
Mo’Nique says that when she did The Queens of Comedy tour with Sommore, Adele Givens, and Laura Hayes in 2001, they made history as the only female group to sell out consecutive shows.
3. Netflix Jig
Part of Netflix’s offer stated that Mo’Nique wouldn’t just have to accept the $500,000 offer but also forego any kind of comedy shows for two years in which she could’ve made a few million dollars. Before they could make a counteroffer, Netflix made it clear it was basically a take it or leave it deal. Ultimately they would’ve accepted a deal that would’ve given her what she would’ve made over the two years of work they didn’t want her making jokes.
4. Nightmare Tag
Touching on the topic that Roland Martin said she was a “nightmare” to work with for the Ebony photo shoot, Mo’Nique says that someone threw a check at one of her assistants. That was something she didn’t appreciate and apparently that led to whatever Martin felt was a “nightmare.”
5. Stand Up Comic
Apparently Mo’Nique’s been standing up for Black workers on the sets of her movies from Precious to Almost Christmas. Something that apparently rubbed Will Packer the wrong way which led to him calling out the Oscar winning actress.
6. Legend Status
Mo’Nique reiterates that she didn’t say she wanted what Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle got from Netflix, but does say if she’s a legend like them why can’t she get “what legends get?”
If you thought her and Charlamagne would have squashed their beef…nah.
