Issa Rae and Solange Knowles used their high profiles to help out a struggling Los Angeles restaurateur who was facing a lawsuit which hastened a scramble to raise money to keep the establishment open. The stars hosted a celebrity fundraiser to help keep the doors of My 2 Cents open after the owner asked for a public offering of $130,000 to help with the legal bills.
Cassius Life wrote early last week about the Wind & Grind fundraiser Rae and Knowles planned to assist Alisa Reynolds, who was slammed with the lawsuits by what appears to be former backers according to a GoFundMe campaign aimed at staving off the costs. Rae and Knowles’ event kicked off last Friday (August 11) and they’ve appeared to have kept My 2 Cents in business although final numbers were not revealed. All funds raised went directly to My 2 Cents.
Kelly Rowland, Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Melina Matsoukas, and more were in attendance. Knowles’ Saint Heron Twitter page shared a bit of footage, which we’ve posted below and on the following pages. Beyonce was reportedly in the building as well but appears she kept herself away from the cameras.
