Bill Maher called himself a “house n*gger” and Twitter has questions.
On Friday night’s episode of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, the show’s host was engaged in a conversation with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse when he jokingly got a job offer. Maher said that he needed to visit the Cornhusker state more often, to which Sasse replied, “you’re welcome, we’d love to have you work in the fields with us.”
That’s when Maher dropped this doozy.

You could feel the awkwardness in the audience’s reaction and in Senator Sasse’s face. Maher insisted it was “just a joke” but not everybody is laughing. Especially people on Twitter.
This isn’t the first time Maher has tried it. A few years back he crowned himself an expert on “Blackness” when he said that Wayne Brady was like Barack Obama, “not real Black.” Brady later responded by saying that he would get “Black” the next time he saw Maher and beat his ass in public.
