June is Black Music Month, which was first established by way of a proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1979. Each year, millions of Americans recognize the contributions of Black musicians across a variety of genres.
From legends like Billie Holiday and Barry Gordy to current superstars such as Beyoncé and Chance The Rapper, Black Music Month honors those who add to the rich tapestry of sound. MetroPCS is front and center in bringing listeners and music fans closer to the influencers and creators that provide the art we’ve all come to value.
In music, the DJ is responsible for not only entertaining one’s ears but also shapes how music gets delivered to new fans and listeners. While streaming sites and video has changed how fans find their favorite tunes, the DJ is still an important cog in the music machine. In Hip-Hop, the DJ is one of the cornerstones of the genre and more than just the one that keeps the party. Today, the DJ is also a producer, A&R, song arranger, media personality and sometimes more.
The DJs we’re profiling today are front and center on what’s hot and what’s not. HipHopWired and Metro PCS compiled the 10 Most Popular DJs In The Nation on the following pages.

Funkmaster Flex – Funkmaster Flex has been manning the decks and the microphone at Hot 97 for well over two decades and still has his ear to the streets, keeping current with today’s fast-moving market.

DJ Wonder – DJ Wonder earned his stripes in high school while living in Delaware and later at Hot 97 before commanding the tables at Sirius XM’s Sway In The Morning Show on Shade 45. DJ Wonder’s highly inventive daily mixes are worth a listen.
Greg Street – The longtime DJ of Atlanta’s V103 has created a warm environment for stars to join him on the air for nothing short of a good time. Also an avowed sneakerhead, Greg Street definitely reps hard for the culture.
DJ Felli Fell – Felli Fell rocks on the airwaves of Power 106 in the Los Angeles area and has his hands busy behind the scenes as a producer and recording artist himself. Since the 90’s, Felli Fell has left his mark several times over in the industry.
DJ Cosmic Kev – Hailing himself as “Philly’s #1 DJ,” Cosmic Kev can make such a boast after years of running things at the city’s Power 99 station. Kev is also a boxing fan and knows a bit about the footwear game as well.
DJ Quicksilva – Quicksilva’s name rings many bells in the DMV (that’s the DC Metro, Maryland and Virginia area). The 93.9 WKYS veteran and “Party Kingpin” also holds it down in Charlotte for 92.7 The Block.
DJ Drama – From mixtapes to becoming a record executive, DJ Drama gives the people what they want. The Philadelphia native now calls Atlanta home and hosts Gangta Grillz Radio on the city’s Hot 107.9. Also each Friday, Drama, DJ Cannon and DJ Sense rock the Sirius XM airwaves with their The Academy: Streetz Is Watchin’ show.
DJ Envy – One of the many reasons Power 105’s The Breakfast Club is a top-rated morning show is its co-host and DJ.
DJ Skee – DJ Skee literally does it all. A DJ, producer, show host, whatever else the Los Angeles native sets his mind to. And if you’re not up on his SKEE TV program, you’re missing out.
Los Angeles Leakers – The L.A. Leakers are a large crew of DJs, producers and music figures but the faces of the crew are DJ sourMILK and Justin Credible. The duo commands shows on both L.A.’s Power 106 and Sirius XM.
