Thanks to his role as lovable stoner of Darius on the hit FX series, Atlanta, LaKeith Stanfield has quickly become a fan favorite actor in the culture today.
With a resume that includes appearances in critically acclaimed films Dope, Selma, and Straight Outta Compton, LaKeith continues to show his range and stopped by the Breakfast Club to speak on how he ended up getting into acting, why he became a runway model, and how he differs from his most famous role, Darius.
Here are the 8 things we learned from LaKeith Stanfield on The Breakfast Club.
1. Straight To Work
When he got the role of Snoop in Straight Outta Compton he was given a mere 7 hours to get into character and begin filming.
2. Snoop Dogg
Even though he’s from Cali and he played Snoop Dogg, he wasn’t that much of a Snoop fan. He says he was too young to understand it.
3. Donald Glover
The first time he ever met Donald Glover in the club, Donald asked him to play the role of Darius on Atlanta. Talk about being blessed. If only all jobs were that easy.
4. And I Ain’t Even Chase This Dream
LaKeith never went to acting school. He basically googled it and ended up with a promising career.
5. Model Actor
Before acting Stanfield had to learn how to walk the runway as a model in order to get into the acting game.
6. Plant Lover
He worked at a homemade “marijuana factory.” It helped him grow an appreciation for plant life until the feds raided the place.
7. Actor And Rapper
LaKeith raps in real life and is in a group called The Moors. But don’t expect to hear him on Donald Glover’s next album.
8. Life Doesn’t Imitate Art
Unlike his Darius character in Atlanta, LaKeith says he doesn’t smoke at all in real life but does know what it’s like to be high thanks to second high smoking.
