Last night (Aug. 11), Simone Manuel unexpectedly won a Gold medal in the 100M Freestyle, and if it didn’t give you the feels, you’re heartless. In doing so she made history by becoming the first Black female swimmer to medal for the USA in an individual race at the Olympics.
Adding more to the feels factor was watching Manuel’s reaction when she realized she won gold (she tied for 1st with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak).
Watch the race here. Twitter reactions below and on the flip.
Also, Simone Biles smoke the comp in gymnastics yesterday, winning the all-around Gold medal in gymnastics. So yeah, Black women named Simone are winning.
