Foot Locker just nailed it. In a new spot, the de facto no. 1 draft pick of the NBA Draft, Ben Simmons, gets some rookie advice from Officer D’Angelo Russell, and it’s hilarious.
The comedy is because while the NBA prospect is seeking advice, Russell takes Simmons’ cell phone and hurls it out of the window and into the ocean. The Lakers point guard is poking fun at the predicament he found himself in when cell phone footage he took of Swaggy P allegedly admitting to cheating on his then-fiancee Iggy Azelea made it onto the Internets.
Coupled with the fact that Iggy just broke up with Swaggy, via Instagram, and the forthcoming NBA Draft, the timing for this spot couldn’t be more perfect.
Another commercial (watch on the flip) features Simmons awkwardly speaking to a faux-Karl Anthony Townes.
Both spots will air nationally on ESPN during the the NBA Draft on June 23 and are part of Foot Locker’s “Approved” marketing campaign.
The real deal NBA rookie of the year, and Devon Booker, are in the cell phone commercial, titled “It’s Real Now,” which you can watch below.
