adidas Unveils Jackie Robinson Day Baseball Cleats [Photos]

April 15 is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball. Today (April 7), adidas Baseball unveiled it special edition inspired cleats to celebrate the man who broke the color barrier in pro baseball along the way to a Hall of Fame career.

The adizero Afterburner 2, touted as the lightest cleat in baseball at 8.7oz., and the new Energy Boost Icon 2, which features Boost technology, get design flourishes that pay homage to Robinson.

The shoes feature an image of a base stealing Robinson sliding into second base, newspaper style headlines noting his accomplishments and of course his retired no. 42 uniform number. Heather wool is also used, a nod to the uniforms of Robinson’s playing days, along with more current SPRINTSKIN and nubuck in the Afterburner 2 and the Energy Boost Icon 2, respectively.
