Remember Mitt Romney? He had a disastrously sad run for president, but he’s back from political obscurity as the pot calling the kettle black. In this case, “the kettle” is Donald Trump.
On Thursday (March 3) Romney held what was called a “hastily organized speech” attended by 600 people at the Hinckley Institute of Politics in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud,” Romney told the crowd. “His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing members of the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.”
The ill-received, and pretty late, effort was Romney’s way of warning the Republican Party about Trump. Romney slammed Trump’s polices and wrote him off as a self-absorbed and unqualified rich businessman whose rallies are nothing more than a public circus.
“He cheers assaults on protesters,” he said. “He applauds the prospect of twisting the Constitution to limit First Amendment freedom of the press. This is the very brand of anger that has led other nations into the abyss.”
It’s clear that Romney didn’t think people would remember that he loved Trump during his own failed campaign, four years ago.
In a hilarious plot twist, Romney is catching slander from conservative voters, and offering more proof that the GOP is in complete shambles.
