Ahead of Lil Wayne’s homecoming next month for his inaugural Lil Weezyana Music Festival, the NOLA spitter called up Wild Wayne at New Orleans’ Q93 to talk all things Tunechi.

The dialogue between the two delved through a comprehensive list of topics, including his new Free Weezy album, formative years on Cash Money, rapport with Jay Z, Young Thug’s Barter 6 and much more.

Free Weezy

His new album is a testament of his will, and has shown Lil Wayne that he has the ability to keep doing what he does best no matter what. “I do this with my eyes closed,” said Tunechi.

Juvie

Lil Wayne owes a lot of his success to Juvenile, thanks to his constant reassurance that Wayne was the one who stood out the most, lyrically (see Hot Boys). In fact, Wayne was more concerned with musically impressing Juvie, Baby and Slim more than the collective mass.

Early Musical Influence

Weezy credits New Orleans’ Lil Slim and Yella Boy for being influential MCs during his formative years.

YMCMB

The concept behind YMCMB takes root in Wayne’s Squad Up project. YMCMB is what cemented Wayne’s brand and business savvy.

Barter 6

Lil Wayne isn’t mad at Young Thug for biting off his Carter series. He feels, in this case, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Drake & Nicki

Plain and simple, Wayne brought Nicki in because he would have been an idiot to pass her up. And Drake? Well, Drake wasn’t as convincing. But in the end, Drizzy came up on top due to his lyrical content and crooning abilities.

Did You Know

Pleasure P, Lloyd and Kevin Gates were artists that were actually signed to Young Money, but later ventured out on their own.
