With the announcement that South African comedian Trevor Noah will be taking over hosting duties for Comedy Central’s popular The Daily Show program, naturally people wanted to know more about him.
The move to have Noah take the place of the wildly popular Jon Stewart couldn’t have been an easy one, but it has been set it stone by way of the announcement from Comedy Central president, Michele Ganeless this Monday (Mar. 30).
While we don’t now when Noah will make his highly anticipated debut, we will share what we’ve found out about the rising 31-year-old star.

His Parents’ Relationship Was Forbidden When He Was Born
During the time of Noah’s birth in 1984, the racist segregation policy of apartheid was still active. Noah’s mother is a South African from the Xhosa tribe, and his father is of Swiss and German descent. His mother was jailed as a result of their union.
Noah’s No Stranger To The Talk Show Format
In 2010, Noah hosted his own talk show, Tonight with Trevor Noah, in South Africa.
Noah Got His Break As An Actor And Radio DJ
According to Wikipedia, Noah starred in South African soap opera, Isidingo in 2002 when he was 18. Noah then hosted the Noah’s Ark radio show on YFM. Noah also worked as a host for an educational program and gossip show.
Noah Was Introduced To American TV Audiences In 2012
In 2012, Noah performed his act on Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show to great results. He also performed on Late Show with David Letterman. He is the first South African comedian to do so on both shows.
The Daily Show Link Happened Organically
Noah was added as a recurring guest to The Daily Show’s roster in December 2014 thus leading to the new gig.
He’s Been Groomed For Stardom
Noah has covered GQ South Africa and major American publications and networks have done profile stories on his career including Rolling Stone and NPR among others.
Race Is His Specialty
Noah’s stand up routine mostly centers around his growing up in South Africa as a mixed-race child. He often makes comical comparisons in how Americans and South Africans view race.
