After the recent revelation that Jamal knocked up Raven Symone (whatever her character’s name is) after Lucious forced him into a marriage, episode 7 of Empire’s first season was guaranteed to deliver some fireworks. This week offered drama and mentions of the phrases “bae” and “C.P. time.”
“Our Dancing Days” didn’t disappoint, as Lucious and Cookie still had some unfinished business to take care of. There was also a major truth bomb dropped on the Lyon family that was a long time coming. With that said, hit the jump for all of the ratchetness from the latest episode of Empire.

Daddy’s Little Girl?
Part of Empire’s appeal is its flashbacks, which provide some of the missing back story on the Lyon clan. Last night, we learned that Lucious forced Jamal to get married at 18. More shocking than the marriage is the fact he consummated it by smashing the cakes a grand total of one time.
Boss Maneuvers
Lucious’ ALS is starting to get real, and it’s happening at the wrong time. While Empire Records prepares for their crucial investor showcase, a clearly disoriented Lucious passes out. Ruh-roh. It turns out Lucious’ doctor is a snake oil salesman, and the miracle cure he’s been doling out has damaged Lucious’ liver. That doesn’t stop Lucious from running the investor meeting from his makeshift ER at his compound—complete with tubes and a heart rate monitor to make things more dramatic.
What’s Beef
Meanwhile, Jamal and Hakeem are still beefing. A strange (but expected) plot twist arrived in the form of a girl who may be Jamal’s long lost daughter. This adds more drama to the mix for Jamal, who already lost his domestic partner, Michael. Bad breakups, illegitimate kids, and a baby mama? Maybe Jamal is more like Lucious than either of them want to admit.
U.O.E.N.O.
Cookie still appears to be down with Lucious despite getting divorced during her 17-year bid. That appearance took a hit when Lucious picked Anika to ride with him in the ambulance, but Cookie still found a way to sneak outside the emergency room. Things get even more tenuous when Elle shows up late for the investor showcase, and Anika slips some drugs in her drink Bill Cosby style (U.O.E.N.O.). This potentially sets up an “I told you so” moment from Lucious, and we know Cookie is dreading that.
Emotionally Invested
With Elle involuntarily drugged out of her mind, Jamal and Hakeem have to form a temporary truce to perform for the investors. Here we learn a few quick things about Camilla. It turns out, she’s an investor…surprise! She also doesn’t know what the word “bae” is, but that’s another matter for another day. Be on the look out for some nasty Oedipal-type action, as Camilla is seriously throwing it at Lucious.
More Than A Woman
Apparently, one unknown symptom of ALS involves losing the ability to speak at the most inopportune time. Lucious goes mute right before the presentation, and it’s up to Cookie to save the day. She ditches the Teleprompters, goes off the dome, and delivers a pitch like the woman who pushed packs to help build a powerful label from nothing. And then…
No Words
A still out of sorts-looking Lucious is clapping and grinning, and he blurts out, “I love you” to Cookie. Say what? Why are Andre and Anika the only ones either mildly disturbed or surprised by this? Anika can barely muster up a side eye.
Family Business
All the going mute and ER visits force Lucious to come clean. Back at the mansion he tells the Lyons he has ALS to mixed reactions. Andre has gone bat-dung crazy after already being upstaged at the investor presentation, and Rhonda finds him showering fully clothed because he clearly can’t deal. First his sabotage of Hakeem and Jamal doesn’t work, and now this.
Cookie Monster
Remember that lingering sexual tension between Lucious and Cookie that remains despite the many times Lucious dogged out Cookie? Well, as they’re talking, they catch feelings. Before you know it, pink cookies in a plastic bag…getting crushed by buildings. We knew Lucious and Cookie would end up sexing each other again at some point, so if your money was Episode 7, congrats. We can’t front though. After last week, who wouldn’t have smashed Cookie? Lucious is posted up during their post coital chat looking like a dip in the waters of Cookie is the cure-all.
Hell Hath No Fury
As bourgie and non-threatening as she seems, Cookie and Lucious should both be very afraid of Anika. She already slipped Elle a mickey, and she seems to play this ice queen role too well.
