On the heels of the hot mess that was their Aaliyah biopic, Lifetime is attempting to immortalize Whitney Houston via the small screen with the TV movie Whitney.
A second trailer was released via People.com, and the clip features the making of Houston’s 1990 hit “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” But there are also reoccurring signs of the troubles that caused Aaliyah: Princess of R&B to trend for all the wrong reasons.
Hold out hope for the movie, but here’s what to expect from Lifetime’s Whitney Houston biopic.

The movie will primarily focus on Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown, whom she divorced in 2006.
Yaya DaCosta from Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model stars as Whitney Houston. DeCosta’s biggest credits to date were in Lee Daniels’ The Butler 2010’s The Kids Are Alright alongside Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore.
There will be some obvious lip-syncing. The singing voice you hear will actually be Deborah Cox’s—not Houston’s or DaCosta’s.
The movie features no direct involvement from Houston’s friends or family. We know how Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina felt about that.
Much like Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, outside of DaCosta, Bassett and Wesley Jonathan, none of the cast members are really household names.
Shem Bitterman whose previous credits include Halloween 5, Betty & Coretta, and 2009’s The Job wrote the script.
Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, released the following statement objecting to the production of the film: “No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby.”
The film will hint at a romantic relationship between Houston and her longtime friend/personal assistant Robyn Crawford. Yolanda Ross will play the role of Crawford.
Despite the Aaliyah biopic being slammed and the Houston family’s objection to the movie, Bassett told Huffington Post Live, “I know about being a woman, about being a black woman that came up in a little hometown … and yet you are able to become a success because of this God-given gift or talent.”
