Country singer Dolly Parton resurfaced in the pop culture zeitgeist after declaring her support for same sex marriage and previewing a handful of pro-LGBT tracks for Billboard magazine in late October of 2014.

Being married to Carl Dean since 1966 hasn’t stopped her from speaking in support of marriage equality. And other stars, who have self identified as heterosexual have also spoken up in support of LGBT rights. Hit the jump for other straight celebs who support LGBT equality.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

During his All Eyes On Kanye West special for MTV, West revealed being teased for being effeminate in high school made him homophobic. He openly asked his fellow artists in the Hip-Hop community to be more accepting of those in the LGBT community.

Rapper Murs is married to Katie Marie Carter, and the couple has two adopted children. But that didn’t stop Murs from kissing another man in his “Animal Style” video in efforts to draw attention to marriage equality laws, bullying, and tolerance for others despite their sexual preference.

Snoop Dogg

Consider Snoop Dogg’s stance on sexual preference a continuously evolving one. He spoke in favor of same sex marriage to Huffington Post in March of 2013. But he also posted a homophobic slur on his Instagram account in 2014 before later deleting the comment.

After repeated arrests for soliciting sex from transgender prostitutes, Hot 97 personality Mr. Cee said he didn’t self-identify as a homosexual. But while talking with Elliott Wilson, former Hot 97 program director Ebro Darden waved off homophobia in Hip Hop saying, “People honestly don’t [care].”

Beyonce covered the May, 2014 issue of Out magazine. Beyonce, who comprises half of pop culture’s most powerful couple with Jay Z, told Out, “We are all the same, and we all want the same things.”

Actress Anne Hathaway more or less summed up her stance on LGBT equality with a speech at the 2008 Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner.

La La Anthony

La La Anthony attended her first same sex wedding during a 2013 episode of La La’s Full Court Life. “I’m just happy to know that we’ve come this far,” Anthony said in regards to societal acceptance of same sex marriages.

Sean Avery and Hilary Rhoda

Former NHL player Sean Avery has chopped down the likes of actress Elisha Cuthbert and model Hilary Rhoda. So it’s safe to say he’s secure enough with his manhood to have a “bro-mance” with Bravo’s Andy Cohen as part of his ongoing efforts to bring light to LGBT equality.

If you’ve heard his double-platinum single “Same Love,” or seen him on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it’s pretty clear how rapper Macklemore feels about same-sex marriage.

A$AP Rocky

Members of the A$AP Mob have been very vocal about being called homophobic slurs due to their interest in high fashion. In 2013 A$AP Rocky told Interview magazine, “It makes me upset that this topic even matters when it comes to Hip-Hop.”

In June of 2012, Jay Z publicly backed President Obama’s stance on same sex marriage and civil unions and equated it to the civil rights movement.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

In a 2009 interview with Parade magazine Brad Pitt, answered marriage rumors with Angelina Jolie by saying, “Maybe we’ll get married when it’s legal for everyone else.” He and Jolie tied the knot in August of 2014.

When Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King signed Jason Collins as the first openly homosexual player in the NBA, he shrugged off any notion of marketing or social consciousness. “From our standpoint, we made a basketball decision,” King told ESPN’s Mike & Mike.

Charles Barkley

In usual candid tone, Charles Barkley shirked off any fear of an openly gay athlete. Barkley told sports commentator Dan Patrick, “Everybody played with a gay teammate, Dan, and it’s no big deal.”

While openly gay defensive lineman Michael Sam has yet to play an NFL down, Saint Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher lobbied for the Rams to draft Sam and was incredibly supportive before and after ultimately cutting him from the team.
