ESPN Suspends Bill Simmons For 3 Weeks For Talking Sh*t About Roger Goodell
Grantland boss and ESPN analyst Bill Simmons has been one of Roger Goodell’s biggest critics in the wake of the NFL’s domestic violence issues. (“I don’t trust him to organize a fast-food order at this point.”)
But after calling the league commissioner a bold-faced “liar” in his latest podcast, the “worldwide leader in sports” figured it was time for Simmons to sit in the corner.
Reports Los Angeles Times:
On The B.S. Report podcast hosted on ESPN.com, Simmons used the F word multiple times while passionately exclaiming that Goodell was lying about his involvement and knowledge of the mishandling of the Ray Rice domestic abuse scandal.
āGoodell, if he didnāt know what was on that tape, heās a liar. Iām just saying it. He is lying. If you put him up on a lie detector test, that guy would fail. For all these people to pretend they didnāt know is such … . It really is, itās such … . For him to go into that press conference and pretend otherwise — I was so insulted.ā
Simmons, also the editor-in-chief of Grantland.com, then dared ESPN to reprimand him for what he said during the same podcast.
āI really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says Iām in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell,ā Simmons said. āBecause if one person says that to me, Iām going public. You leave me alone. The commissionerās a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast. … Please, call me and say Iām in trouble. I dare you.ā
Be careful what you wish for.
This isn’t the first time Simmons has pushed the limit on open opinion. Last March, he was suspended for dissing within the family after disparaging tweets about First Take went viral.
