Anniversaries for historic works happen almost everyday. Yet the celebration for Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing has been nothing short of extensive.
Hip-Hop Wired recently published a “Where Are They Now?” segment revolving around the film’s cast and many of them convened at the 25th anniversary screening for the closing night of the 2014 BAMcinemaFest at BAM Harvey Theater in Brooklyn.
The NY Daily News was on the scene and got Lee to reflect on his current New York state of mind while remembering how bad Brooklyn was during the time the movie was filmed.
“It’s not the way it was under the Koch administration,” Lee said of progress the city has made in race relations over the past 25 years. Koch, of course was not available for comment or to defend his politics. He died in February 2013 at the age of 88.
