“Birthers” are the name of a new national group. Arguably the progeny of extremist-right wing Republicans, the new group is reaching into the national conscious with only one goal, to prove that President Obama’s legitimate claim to office is revoked and that his political legacy be denied the glory that surrounds it.

What started with one man, U.S. Army Major Stefan Frederick Cook, refusing his deployment to Afghanistan has now grown to an exclusively inclusive fraternity boasting over 170 members. All share in the Major Frederick’s sentiment; none feel that President Obama is a natural-born citizen.

A recent decision by military authorities has only served to validate the “birthers” claims. A judge threw out a case brought by the military regarding Major Frederick and his claim to remain stateside for an undisclosed reason. Military officials have acknowledged this action but state that they feel the conclusion of the case “in no way validates any of the outlandish claims made by Major Cook.”

Hoopla over President Obama’s right to the Presidency has led nine Republican congressmen to co-sponsor a bill that would require presidential campaigns to provide a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate for future campaigns. One of the co-sponsors, Randy Neugebauer of Texas, has openly stated that he was not certain of President Obama’s citizenship, even going as far as saying that he has never seen him show documents that “would say one way or another.”

President Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, the capital of the 50th state of the United States of America.
