Every time a wrestler dies, it is the equivalent of an angel losing their wings in heaven. Their roles as entertainers stretch far beyond giving fans beefcake violence in the ring.

They are idols to many children, teenagers and even adults for their strength, huge physiques and even bigger personalities give the world a glimpse of what it’s like to be invincible.

Last night, the wrestling world lost arguably its biggest symbol of invincibility when James Hellwig, better known as The Ultimate Warrior died after he collapsed by simply walking to his car. Details involving his death are scarce but he was only 54-years-old.

Today we celebrate his life and legacy by giving you 15 Ultimate Warrior greatest moments. It’s an ultimate look on a career that changed the lives of millions.

War Paint

The Ultimate Warrior’s makeup was just as much a part of his persona as anything else. He even inspired rappers such as Tech N9ne and ICP to do the same for their shows.

The Ultimate Mystique

Long before he could fall victim to an Internet death hoax, the Warrior was long presumed to be dead following his first departure from the WWF. Even when he returned, it was widely rumored that he was the “second” Warrior.

Unbelievable Muscles

The Warrior resembled the closet thing the world has seen of a superhero. Or Greek god.

Ultimate Motivation

Through all the grunts and the groans, there was always a layer of inspirational messages directed at people down on their luck. He even dabbled in traveling motivational speaking for a little bit.

Warrior 24/7

Whenever the aforementioned face paint was donned, The Warrior was immediately enslaved to his character. Which was very much a good thing. Just ask Kathy Lee & Regis.

Limitless Energy

It may have been his untamed spirit or it may have been the ‘roids but there was no denying the energy The Warrior brought to the ring.

Apply The Gorilla Pressure

The Warrior had a wide array of signature moves including big bicep clotheslines and muscular horse kicks. His most popular move was the Gorilla Press, a deadweight bodyslam only a true freak of nature could pull off.

The Language

If you had a hard time understanding The Warrior, you weren’t alone. Sometimes he would combine English and gargoyle dialects with his promo videos.

Ultimate Likeability

Any attempts of making The Warrior a “heel” or bad guy within the organization always failed miserably. His public approval has always outranked any U.S. president’s status. Peep this 1990 interview on The Arsenio Hall Show were he was clearly out his wrestling element but still managed to entertain the crowd.

Dancing With The Devil

After returning to the WWF after his contract disputes were ironed out, The Ultimate Warrior was thrusted in a side scenario with witchdoctor Papa Shango. Although it was definitely bizarre and faker than a $3 bill, it actually didn’t play out as silly as it seemed.

Undeniable Marketability

Notebooks, stuffed action figures and Halloween costumes all became synonymous with The Ultimate Warrior’s likeness when he was at the top of his game.

Wrestlemania VI

Widely considered the greatest WrestleMania match of all time, The Warrior and The Hulkster duked it out before the face-painted hero emerged as the victor. One hell of an acting job on both men’s parts.

Telling It Like It Is

Behind closed doors, the Warrior, the WWF and Hulk Hogan didn’t have the greatest of relationships. Following Macho Man Randy Savage’s death in 2011, the Warrior berated Hogan for being a fake friend in his eyes.

Leading The Flock

The Warrior showed his adaptability skills when he made the popular switch over to WCW and created a new legion of fans dubbed the “One Warrior Nation.”

The Ultimate Eulogy

Just four days ago, the WWE inducted The Ultimate Warrior into their illustrious Hall of Fame. For his last public appearance, he addressed the nation with words of wisdom saying, “No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe a final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others, and makes them bleed deeper and something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized.”

Rest in power, Warrior.
