Seventeen years ago we lost one of the most lyrically proficient MC’s in The Notorious B.I.G. While it seems there isn’t anymore unheard music for us to consume, we thankfully have gotten a better idea about the late, great Frank White through the words of people who really knew him.
For the most part, Smalls was painted as an easy going guy who loved to make jokes and be around his crew. But let his closest friends, family and contemporaries tell it and we find out how truly charismatic he was. Even struggle rappers and singers who were the target of his lyrics still throw down some ice for the nicest MC.
So in his honor we present the 10 greatest stories ever told about The Notorious B.I.G. The visit to the king of pop is our favorite; let us know which is yours in the comments section.

DJ Clue It is always interesting to us to hear accounts about rappers really being about the life. Thankfully DJ Clue avoided what would have been an epic Brooklyn fade.
P! Sean Price’s impersonation of B.I.G. never gets old.
The Real B.I.G. No matter how advanced he was, B.I.G. was still a student to the game and went to Big Daddy Kane for advice on how to handle sharkbiterz.
O.D.B. We can only imagine Biggie’s face when O.D.B. snatched the microphone from him.
Terms & Conditions According to Bun B the lyrics from “Who Shot Ya” (Ni—s wanna creep, gotta watch my back / think the Cognac and endo sack make me slack?) were pretty spot on.
The E-40 Situation Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and the two became cordial. E-40 could have changed history with just a couple of words.
Michael Jackson Would you let your adolescent friends meet MJ? Biggie did not.
The Making Of “Notorious Thugs” I came with a couple ounces of herb, and about 15 minutes into the session, Biggie had it in his hand [laughs]. I’m like, “This ni— just gangstered me for my weed!” But I ain’t say nothing because it’s cool. When Biggie did our style, that’s when Bone received respect for our sh-t. It was like the whole industry never gave us our Ps. But Biggie was telling us that whole night in the studio like, “Y’all just came in and laid it down so fast. Y’all ni—s are amazing.” He was marveling off of us. And we telling him how much love we had for him. Layzie Bone Via XXL
F— Puff! DJ Premier and B.I.G. had so much history together. This is one of the many stories between the two.
Dreams Good to know that the King Of New York was man enough to apologize when he was wrong; especially on preferring Ru Paul over Xscape.
