Outside of the physical training athletes endure, there is a great deal of mental preparation that makes contenders into winners. Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson did just that when she listened to Nas‘ “I Can” before and during her gold medal winning run at Sochi.
In a post win interview with ABC, Anderson explained that she listened to “I Can” while competing for the 2014 olympics women’s snowboard slopestyle event on Sunday, February 9th where she won gold.
“It’s Nas ‘I Can,'” Jamie admitted. “It’s just a very inspirational song to truly believe in yourself and know that you’re capable of anything. If you work hard at it, you can. It’s the truth.”
Yesterday (February 11th) Nas caught wind of the interview and shouted out Anderson via Twitter with his congratulations: “Shout out to @Jme_Anderson. She’s living the American dream! Honored to be apart of it. Congrats on the Gold!”
The Lake Tahoe native scored a 95.25 to win the olympic snowboard slopestyle finals. Anderson has previously finished first in the 2013 and 2012 snowboard slopestyle competition at the X Games.
