While the holidays call for a festive atmosphere, let’s not forget those who have moved on. As we get ready to toast to 2014, we look back at those who we lost in 2013.

Loosing someone is never easy, especially when that individual has touched the lives of many through their artistry, community service, policy and overall dedication to progress of humanity.

In those times of mourning the best reliever is often celebrating the life they lead while they were still with us. So in respect to the dead we present celebrities who died in 2013.

Paul Walker

Known for his role in the Fast and the Furious series, Walker passed away in a car accident on November 30th.

Lee Thompson Young

The former Disney star was found dead August 19th due to a reported suicide.

James Gandolfini

The star of the critically acclaimed HBO series The Sopranos, James Gandolfini passed in Rome due to a massive heart attack on June 19th. 

Nelson Mandela

The civil rights leader who spent the majority of his life to overturn Apartheid, passed away at the age of 95. A film of his life and legacy entitled Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom is in theaters now.

Conrad Bain

Famously known to most as Mr. Drummond from the iconic television sitcom Different Strokes, actor Conrad Bain passed away on January 14th of natural causes.

Ed Koch

The former mayor of New York City was in office when Hip-Hop was birthed and evolved into its’ golden age. He passed on February 1st due to congestive heart failure.

Lou Myers

The former A Different World star was also a NAACP Award winner and a respected musician.

Roger Ebert

The acclaimed movie critic and Chicago Sun Times writer passed away on April 4th 2013 due to a long fight with cancer.

Ken Norton

The famed boxer who defeated Muhammad Ali in their first meeting passed away on September 18th.

Lou Reed

The frontman of the Velvet Underground who was famously sampled on Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It” passed away on October 27th.

Jim “The Dragon” Kelly

This kick ass martial artist worked along side the legend Bruce Lee in the hit film Enter The Dragon and most recently the RZA produced Afro Ninja.

Donald Byrd

The Jazz trumpeter’s work has been sampled by several artists including Nas (“N.Y. State Of Mind”), A Tribe Called Quest (“Footprints”) and Black Moon (“Buck Em Down”) just to name a few.

Pat Summerall

While Pat enjoyed a formidable football playing career, most remember him from a storied career as an analyst alongside John Madden.
