Fans of Lauryn Hill are no doubt excited for her return to performing, and it appears she’s back to form after opening her short, multi-city tour in New York Wednesday (Nov. 27) night. After serving a three-month sentence for tax evasion, Hill didn’t miss a beat as she knocked off the ring rust.
According to a review from the New York Times, Ms. Lauryn Hill, as she’s often referred, delighted fans at the Bowery Ballroom with hits from her lone solo full-length debut, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. Hill also rocked a bevy of tracks from her former crew, The Fugees. According to the Times, Hill was all over the place but kept the pace and even allowed one of her children to spit a verse.
From the Times:
There were some moments that seemed like an open rehearsal, but many more that had been well plotted to give old songs new life. “Lost Ones,” from 1998, arrived with two reinvented grooves, switching halfway through: first 1960s soul, then reggae. “I have to make these songs sustainable to perform,” Ms. Hill said. “You wouldn’t want me to just, like a robot, do the same thing every night.”
