Graffiti may have created a substantial lane for itself but it will forever remain embedded as one of the core elements in Hip-Hop. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a b-boy (or girl’s) expression through the power of tagging can value several million syllables and such.

Sometimes it is the art that gives us the best voice when death leaves us at a loss for words. Hip-Hop has seen its lion share of tragedy throughout its brief historic run.

Given the aggressive nature of the subject matter and deep roots in street culture, we have lost one too many icons to violence. The lesson to be learned from those instances was self-explanatory but we’ve learned a lot about life from the death of some of our fallen soldiers.

Whether it’s the benefits of a proper diet (Big Pun) or safe sexual awareness (Eazy-E), as a community, we try not to let their deaths go in vain.
