There is no denying that Kanye West is one of the most popular entertainers on the planet. However, his rise to the top has been filled with some zany moments and media displays that border on embarrassing.

In all fairness, Yeezy has been through a lot of ups and downs but it seems like he’s never at peace with the success he’s gained. Couple that with his bombastic persona and suddenly he’s a lot less likeable than in years past.

But nothing could make sense of a recent story where the Chicago native reportedly turned down an offer to appear as a judge on the upcoming American Idol season because it would hurt his reputation and “street cred.” Right, we still haven’t gotten over that one.

HipHopWired takes a look at 15 moments where Kanye West ruined his massive reputation long before TV jobs came calling.

Kanye Kills Taylor Swift’s Vibe

Perhaps his most infamous moment, Kanye West grabbing the microphone from Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards still get mentioned heavy to this day.

They Call Him Cap Locks Yeezy In The Hood

Another moment in reputation-ruining happened when he used his now-defunct Kanyeuniversecity blog in January 2009 to address so-called hackers into his accounts saying, “YOOOO WHY WON’T YOU LET ME BE GREAT!!!” – and also posted a photo of him performing at one of President Obama’s inaugural balls with the caption, “LOOK HOW FRESH MY SUIT IS.”

He The Best, So He Says

After losing the Best New Artist trophy at the 2004 American Music Awards, Ye said in typical sore loser fashion, “I felt like I was definitely robbed and I refuse to give any politically correct bullsh-t ass comment. I was the best new artist this year.”

Kanye Thought He Was Yeezus A Long Time Ago

At the 2005 Grammys, Kanye donned angel wings during his performance of “Jesus Walks.” Then he posed as Jesus Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone a year later.

Kanye West Doesn’t Have Good VMAs Luck

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards had the misfortune of witnessing a massive Kanye meltdown after he failed to win any awards. I got the f—in’ #1 record. I’m tryin’ man. I don’t even get a f—in’ chance. They don’t want a f—-in’ black man in that position!”

Even In Europe, Kanye Is Gonna Crash Your Party

At the 2006 European version of the MTV Video Music Awards, Yeezy lost to the Best Video Award to English acts, Justice and Simian, and then snatched the mic from them during their acceptance speech. The Chicago star said, “My video cost a million dollars.”

Kanye Couldn’t Hold It

During a relatively normal interview with Conan O’Brien on NBC’s Late Night show, Kanye decided to let the host know he needed to relieve himself.

Martin Louis the King Jr. Almost Happened

Before designing his own fashion line, Yeezy worked with Louis Vuitton to design an expensive high-top sneaker in 2009. During a promotional video for the shoe, Kanye said he would be renaming himself Martin Louis the King Jr. Yeah, didn’t make sense to us either.

When Kanye West Doesn’t Do A Magazine Cover, The World Stops

It’s hard to imagine Kanye To The turning down a magazine cover, especially for one as popular as Rolling Stone. But he did just that back in June of this year for reasons unknown.

When Kanye Gets Mad, He Calls You Bad Names

After West arrived two hours late at the 2008 Bonnaroo music festival, fans were miffed. Musician Robert Randolph led a spirited “Kanye Sucks!” chant the next day.

Responding and “typing so f—-ing hard” on his Macbook, Yeezy responded with, “THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WHERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE. I HAVE A F—–G LIGHT SHOW DUMB A**, IT’S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS!”

Cameras Aren’t Yeezy’s Best Friends

Although West caught a lot of heat back for his reported attack of paparazzo in July at LAX airport, he and his bodyguard caught felony charges at the same location in 2008.

During a November 2010 stop on the Today Show with Matt Lauer, West was actually well-mannered and patient until the host seemed to undercut his guest by showing unusual sympathy for former president George W. Bush.

After West’s infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” statement, he wanted to show he was remorseful. However, the interview above showed the artist having a massive overreaction to the situation.

Heil Kanye?

During a 2011 performance at the U.K. Big Chill music festival, West paused his set to tell the crowd and said, “I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m f-–n’ insane, like I’m Hitler.” He was met with a chorus of boos.

Kanye’s Apparently No Big Fan Of Justin Timberlake

During an odd moment during a February concert, West rambled angrily that he’s got “love for Hov but I ain’t f*****g with that ‘Suit & Tie’” – a reference to the Justin Timberlake smash hit that features the Brooklyn rapper.

The Epic And Uncomfortably Smug New York Times Interview

Everything about the New York Times interview ahead of the release of Yeezus was a lesson in oversharing, overstating and simply overdoing it.
