You can’t buy the publicity Kendrick Lamar is getting right now – even the greatest NBA coach of all time Phil Jackson is sending tweets his way. After shaking up the game with his feature verse on Big Sean’s “Control (HOF),” the Rap community has gotten either defensive, inspired, emotional or a bit of all three.
K. Dot pushed the envelope as he put the likes of Drake, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Tyler, The Creator, Pusha T and more on his dinner plate. Also how we can forget about his “King Of New York” claim when he is representing the West Coast?
As expected, rappers have responded in one way or another to Kendrick. A few bigged up his efforts via social media, some cooked up an original response and others went into a mad scramble to secure the “Control (HOF)” instrumental for their own comeback purposes on audio.
Good, bad or indifferent, here are the most up to date rapper replies from the likes of B.o.B., Los, Meek Mill, as well as Styles P offering Joe Budden the fair one, in the following pages.
Atlanta rapper B.o.B. approached his reply a bit differently with a play on Kendrick’s flow from “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and a guitar solo.
Bronx upstart Fred Da Godson *claims* Kendrick fears his flow on “Say My Name”.
Bad Boy “King” Los out of Baltimore actually applauds Kendrick through some clever bars and double time flows on his own “Control (HOF)” freestyle.
Jay Electronica who was originally was on the “Control (HOF)” gave his opinion on Kendrick via REVOLT:
““I like the song and the stir it’s causing, It’s good for rap music.”
MMG’s Meek Mill approved and shrugged off Kendrick’s boasting at a recent interview on Power 99 in Philly.
Joe Budden philosophizes about Kendrick’s verse with some friends over some hooka in typical Budden fashion.
Yesterday he got into a quick back and forth with Styles P. when The LOX member commented on those Kendrick called out:
Joe Budden then responded to Styles:
“@therealstylesp he called out everybody. U included.”
Styles barked back at the New Jersey MC for sticking his nose where it shouldn’t be:
After the Yonkers tough talk, Joe Budden left it as is b.
And what’s a Rap controversy without a Cassidy response?
Brooklyn native and one fourth of Slaughterhouse, Joell Ortiz was the first rapper to respond with “Outta Control”.
Chicago’s own Lupe Fiasco was inspired by some of his fans on Twitter and released “SLR2”.
Even Brooklyn’s own Astro comes through with a retort over a freshly made Statik Selektah beat.
Remember JR Writer from the Diplomats? Well he has a couple words for Kendrick as well.
And New Jersey’s own Ransom takes his “Control (HOF)” opportunity to address the recent Nicki Minaj snafu.
So The Madd Rapper has a Kendrick response as well. It seems like the Cointel Pro might be up to their old tricks again with their diversion tactics.
And the time has come – the self proclaimed “King Of New York” Papoose responds with bars questioning Kendrick, Drake and Kanye’s masculinity.
Of course Joe Budden had to get in on the action. He drops a record called “Lost Control.”
UM aka the artist formerly known as Uncle Murda comes through with some East New York tough talk on a song called “The Response.”
