With the Internet advancing faster than ever, many Hip-Hop acts have adapted a new marketing plan when it comes to their music; give it away for free. A chosen few have been able to flip this scheme, and their fan bases into viable recording careers, others have failed miserably.
Day after day, week after week and month after month, hit up your favorite Hip-Hop website and you’ll see an abundance of free mixtapes courtesy of the Mac Book generation. Some are worthy of taking up space on your hard drive, while most just are not. The trick is to give away plethora of material to the listeners, in hopes that those same fans will buy your official studio album—that comes with a barcode on and is purchasable via iTunes, record stores, or the artist’s personal website—once it’s released.
There are those that have ridden the mixtape-to-studio album wave to great success, i.e. Mac Miller, Kid Cudi, and Kendrick Lamar, just to name a few. But there are a lot more that seem terrified to take the commercial plunge and see who’s out there willing to pay $8.99 for their record. Stuck in the Mixtape Matrix, here are 15 rappers that will never drop an album.

OJ Da Juiceman
This Atlanta native was featured in XXL’s coveted Freshmen issue a few years back, and even had a feature on Jadakiss’ Kiss The Game Goodbye album, (still scratching my head about that one). But it seems like things never really took off for him, and they probably never will.
Peedi Crakk
Everyone had great hopes for Peedi Crakk. After the Roc fell apart, he even got down with the Roots for some dope records. Still, there is no album in P. Crack C0c@ine’s discography.
Gudda Gudda
Part of the ever-expanding roster of YMCMB, this tatted up rapper would have a better chance going out on a date with Chelsea Clinton, rather than waiting for a release date to an official project.
Jae Millz
This Harlem battle rapper was the talk of the Internet when he signed on the dotted line with Lil Wayne & Co. But that was about four years ago.
Tone Trump
The boy from Philly pledged his allegiance to Young Jeezy and CTE, but that beard will be old and grey by the time he has an album with a barcode on it.
Red Café
“WHAT ELSE!!!” Well, it’s about time to drop an album, but with labelmates such as Machine Gun Kelly and French Montana leaping ahead of him, it looks like Red will be stuck writing Diddy’s feature verses for a while longer.
Pill
After a quick stint as an honorary member of MMG, the dreaded ATLien went on to make a buffoon out of himself at a show at S.o.B.’s in New York, where he drunkenly rambled on about forgetting his lyrics. Things haven’t been the same since.
CyHi The Prynce
Another product of Atlanta, and an employee of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label. A word to the wise, CyHi; Kid Cudi left the label, and he actually released a stellar debut before exiting. With Pusha, Kanye, and Big Sean hogging the entire spotlight, where exactly does that leave you? “Runaway as fast as you can…”
Audra The Rapper
Word has it that this Femme Fatale from the DMV had an affiliation with Rick Ross. But further investigation finds her on no liner note credits, and no album release date in sight.
Cory Gunz
You would think that having a reality show on MTV, while Nick Cannon and YMCMB fight to have you on their team would garner a spot for you on iTunes, but alas, it hasn’t happened for the BX Bomber. Maybe it will later on, but it doesn’t look like it will in the foreseeable future.
Kidd Kidd
Remember when signing to G-Unit actually meant something? Those were the good ‘ole days. Too bad Kidd Kidd missed them by a decade.
Mickey Factz
If anything, at least Mickey can brag about having one of his songs featured on CSI: Miami. Even though the show is now canceled, you might get lucky, and hear his tune on a rerun during a CSI: Miami marathon.
Emilio Rojas
One of the nicest newcomers to grace the mic. Unfortunately, having the seal of approval from DJ Green Lantern doesn’t lead to a record deal. No record deal, no album.
Jay Electronica
Absolutely no words for this guy right here. *Shaking my head*
Ransom
Most might know Ransom from his beef with Joe Budden. But since the dust has settled from that, he’s been stuck in the Mixtape Matrix with no ending on the horizon. While Joey has enjoyed a few more album releases, tours, a TV show, working with Eminem, and more. Is that rubbing it in?
