In our newest episode of Hip-Hop Collectors, we stopped by the famed Patchwerk Studios to find out how they became the go-to studio for Dr. Dre, Outkast, Rick Ross and more.
If the walls at Atlanta’s Patchwerk Studio could talk they would tell you some of the richest stories in Hip-Hop History. Since 1995 the state-of-the-art studio has been the preferred spot for some of rap’s biggest names. When Dr. Dre is working in Atlanta, he only goes there. When producers need to hear that extra boom in their beats, the come there. When Kanye West needs to rent a $9,800 microphone he calls them.
We caught up with studio founder and co-owner Curtis Daniel III to get the history of this musical landmark. Watch as he tell us how he got Outkast to be his first client and how the studio gave Rick Ross his most memorable adlib.
