When we last saw Luke Cage, he wasn’t in the best of shape.

Not only is he about to get framed by Shades and Mariah for the death of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (who went out the way you’d think more musicians would go out), but he also experienced the seemingly impossible when a bullet tore through his frame as if he was a mortal man.

Who shot Luke? Was it Robocop? How will Shades and Mariah convince anyone that it was Luke who killed Stokes with the whole hood believing he’s the Black Captain America? Well, let’s find out.

Here’s a quick recap of Marvel’s Luke Cage, Episode 8: Blowin’ Up The Spot

Runnin’

After catching what we can only assume is a kryptonite bullet designed to stop the super Black man, Luke Cage and Clair Temple find themselves being hunted down by the man who managed to finally put a dent in the man of titanium (“Man of Steel” is obviously taken). After capsizing the ambulance they were riding in (anyone check to see how the driver was doing?), Luke and Clair hoof it to a clinic where Claire hopes to extract the bullet and save Luke’s life.

It’s A Conspiracy

Cottonmouth’s cousin Mariah is still coming to grips with how she spilled her own blood’s blood. Luckily for her Shades is there to play the role of The Wolf (Pulp Fiction reference) and Mark Fuhrman as he plants some bloody gloves at Pop’s barbershop to make it look like Luke did it. After calling in the murder, Mariah had the club hostess, Candy say it was Luke Cage who pummeled Cottonmouth into oblivion.

I See You

Even though Mariah Dillard got Harlem’s Paradise hostess with the mostess, Candy wrapped up and saying she saw Luke Cage kill Cottonmouth, Misty already suspects Mariah is the actual culprit. But it doesn’t help that Dillard is Inspector Ridley’s soror. Yup, apparently these two have a good rapport with each other. Doesn’t bold well for Misty’s chances of convincing her new boss that her girl is a cold blooded killer.

Shady Business

With Cottonmouth’s crew looking for a quick come up, Shades let’s them know that he’s in charge now (and he’s loving every minute of it).

Take It Personal

Using a police phone tracker to locate Luke and Claire (who’s been trying like hell to get that bullet out of Cages literal rock hard abs), Misty unknowingly walks in on a second assassination attempt on Luke’s life and ends up getting taken hostage for a second before getting knocked out by the assailant. So who’s the would be assassin that Luke refers to as Willis and Stryker and how does he know him?

Diamondback

Willis/Stryker is in fact the ghost known as Diamondback. A banged up Luke Cage tracks down Diamondback and tries to apologize to him for their broken relationship. His sincereness falls on death ears and Luke eventually gets into a brawl with the son of a preacher man after he confesses to setting up Carl Lucas and sending him to Seagate. But this move only served to infuriate Diamondback even more as his play only led to Carl gaining super powers. Talk about a plan blowing up in your face.

Girl Fight

Misty’s bad day only gets worse after she and Clair square off in the interrogation room. After Claire suggests that Misty is “weak” for not believing Luke is innocent, Misty straight up put hands on Claire. Claire was saved from police brutality when Inspector Ridley broke up the squabble. Don’t be surprised if dudes in the street start telling Simone Missick she’s weak with hopes of feeling Misty Knight hands on them. Just sayin’.

Queen B@#$h

After paying off Candy for baring false witness against Luke Cage, Mariah tells Shades that she’s ready to have Candy and her whole family killed should she think about turning states evidence. Mariah Mabel has officially arrived even if Dillard refuses to accept it.

My Brother’s Keeper

Diamondback stalks Luke all the way up and empty block with a specialty “Judas” bullet in the chamber. While Luke tried to convince Willis that he “loved him like a brother,” Luke got his Empire Strike’s Back moment when Diamondback hit him with, “Ni**a… I am your brother” before poppin’ one more “Judas” into Luke’s shoulder. Word to everything the force from that one landed Luke in the back of a garbage truck like he was The Phantom Menace.
