Freddie Gibbs joined an infamous list this past week when he was arrested in France on rape charges. Accused of a rape in Austria in 2015, Gibbs and his lawyers have denied the claims and are currently fighting extradition to Austria where the supposed rape took place.
Gibbs is the latest Hip-Hop star to be accused of a sex crime joining a long list of rappers who guilty or not, will have “rape” connected to their names for the rest of their careers.
Fat Joe once said that rape is “the ugliest sh*t you can get accused of” and he’s right. Many times, even where the case is thrown out or no official charges were made, rappers still find themselves spending time, money and energy fighting to clear their name. But, we can not forget the times where rappers were indeed rightfully charged and punished either.
Either way, fighting a rape case is no fun and these rappers in this list can attest to that.

2Pac
Obviously, 2Pac‘s name is the first that comes to mind when talking about rappers being accused of rape. In 1993, Pac and a group of men were accused of raping a woman in his hotel room. Pac never denied having sex with the woman, but said that it was consensual. Nevertheless, he was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and sentenced to 1½–4½ years in prison. He would serve nine months before being released after Suge Knight posted his bail and signed him to Death Row Records.
Mystikal
Mystikal served six years in prison after being convicted of sexual battery and extortion. The story goes that he and his bodyguards caught his hairstylist stealing money and they forced her to perform oral sex on them as punishment. Mystikal claimed that the oral sex was consensual, but after a judge watched a videotape of the incident and considered Mystikal’s prior record, they decided to lock him up. It didn’t help that he once recorded a song called “P*ssy Crook” either.
DMX
DMX once rapped about raping someone’s daughter for revenge, but apparently he’s not about that life at all. In 1998 just as his career was starting to take off, X was slapped with charges of sodomy, rape and false imprisonment after a 29-year old exotic dancer claimed he took her in her apartment. X was cleared of all charges after DNA tests revealed no match between his semen and the samples found at the scene of the crime. He would allude to the case briefly in the “Ruff Ryders Anthem” video.
Fat Joe
In 2010, Fat Joe found himself on the wrong side of a rape accusation. A woman claimed that Joe and friends took advantage of her in the back of a limousine. Joe defended himself saying he never met or spoke to the woman making the claims. Her case was thrown out after just one week of investigation after cops couldn’t find any real evidence to support her. Joe told media outlets that it was “the ugliest sh*t to get accused of.”

CeeLo Green
CeeLo’s image and career took a big hit when he was accused, but never actually charged, with date rape. In 2012, the singer-used-to-be-rapper was accused of sexual battery by a woman who said he slipped ecstasy in her drink, took her back to his hotel and raped her while she was passed out. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office did not have enough evidence to file a charge of rape of an intoxicated person, but settled on charging CeeLo with felony charge of furnishing a controlled substance. He would be found guilty of that charge and sentenced to probation. Lo didn’t make things better by tweeting about it saying “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!” and “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent”
Big Sean
Right when Big Sean was becoming “Finally Famous” he was accused of touching some “ass ass ass ass ass” that did not belong to him. In August 2011, Sean was arrested for third degree sexual assault at a concert in Lewiston, New York after a 17-year-old girl told police she was she was sexually assaulted by Sean and a friend during a Wiz Khalifa concert. He he pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful imprisonment but the sex crime charges were dropped.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg‘s reputation of being smooth with the ladies was put at risk when a woman accused the Doggfather and friends of drugging and raping her before a taping of The Jimmy Kimmel show. Snoop fought the charges saying that the woman was attempting to extort him for $5 million. The faulty lawsuit was eventually dropped and no criminal charges were pressed. Snoop’s lawyers insisted that there was no financial settlement and that the case was settled amicably.
