Sunday, January 4, was a long, somber day for fans of sports, journalism, and all-around great people alike; it also marked the end of an era, as beloved ESPN sports anchor Stuart Scott died after his third bout with cancer.
Love and adoration for Scott’s warm, charismatic and truthful commentary on-air came from all angles, especially from the Hip-Hop audience, which he represented well. But none were as heartfelt as the message from Rich Eisen, a friend and former co-anchor on ESPN’s SportsCenter who fought tears as announced the passing of his colleague.
Eisen offered a second homage later at his current post on NFL Network, where he used some of Scott’s popular catchphrases during a game recap.

“Cool as the other side of the pillow.”
For Scott, this was the phrase that paid; it also described his on-air demeanor to a tee.
“BOO-YAH”
Easily Stu’s most famous saying.
“Can I get a witness from the congregation?”
Eisen had the pleasure of sitting alongside Scott on ESPN’s SportCenter, but he and the rest of the world witnessed the legend’s his nightly sermon.
“And the Lord says you’ve got to rise up!”
My personal favorite of the batch, this hilarious quote came hand in hand with a monstrous slam dunk.
“Straight off the meat rack…”
Did your auntie quote anyone else in sports culture? We think not.
“They call him the Windex Man cause he’s always cleaning the glass”
Often imitated, never duplicated.
“You ain’t gotta go home, but you gotta get the heck outta here.”
Strike out on Scott’s watch, and you’d catch this line.
“Holla at a playa when you see him in the street!”
If only Jim Crow’s track became as famous as Scott quoting them.
“Just call him butter ’cause he’s on a roll”
Get tons of buckets, and Scott was bound to shout you out with this saying.
“Vlade Daddi, he likes to party, he don’t cause trouble, he don’t bother nobody.”
The man quoted Slick Rick on SportsCenter, b. Like come on!
