What a difference a Twitter conversation can make. Speaking with a colleague on the social network, former Roc-A-Fella rapper Beanie Sigel came up and somehow his track record of collaborations with Jay Z became a topic. That’s when yours truly dropped the proverbial bomb (for some): Sigel out-rapped Jay on multiple tracks.
Yes, I said it. But my beliefs are all based on logic. Considering where the MCs are in their respective lives, it may be difficult to even consider the thought that Beans could ever go toe-to-to with Jay.

Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel & Memphis Bleek – “More Money, More Cash, More Hoes”
A young Sigel was fresh off the streets of Philly when this record released, so it’s no surprise that he came bearing bars on this cut.
Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel – “Streets Is Talking”
Hov’s articulate, yet clever approach to rhyming comes is on full display here. But the rawness of Sigel Street in South Philadelphia can be heard all over Just Blaze’s knocking production. Win goes to Sigel.
Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel – “Where Have You Been?”
While Jigga’s smooth hustler delivery and cadence works to his advantage most times, this track called for lyricism and passion. Sigel’s verse exudes that.
Freeway ft. Jay Z & Beanie Sigel – “What We Do”
Sigel’s verse gets forgotten because it appears too late on the track to get played in clubs (songs rarely play pass the second verse/chorus), but he still takes the cake over Jay. For the record, no one trumps Freeway, though.
Jay Z ft. Memphis Bleek, Amil & Beanie Sigel – “You, Him & Her”
“I’m a beast,” said the hood’s favorite, Sigel-Sigel, Desert Eagle. Enough said.
Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel & Scarface – “This Can’t Be Life”
From my vantage point, verses on this emotionally heavy track are ordered from weakest to strongest. So for all intents and purposes, Sigel outdoes his OG on this record. You mad?
Beanie Sigel ft. Jay Z – “It’s On
The Roc-A-Fella duo are most evenly match on this track, which appeared on State Property’s The Chain Gang Vol. II and Sigel’s The B. Coming. While Jay’s references to Ferris Bueller are sharp, it’s Beans who’s most efficient and most at home on the beat.
Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel – “Stick 2 the Script”
As you can see, Sigel brought his A-game during those The Dynasty sessions.
Jay Z ft. Beanie Sigel & Scarface – “Some How, Some Way”
This track has a similar ordering to the previous song from the trio
Scarface ft. Jay Z & Beanie Sigel – “Guess Who’s Back”
These Mac, Brad, and Jigga collabs didn’t fall in the Brooklyn rapper’s favor, as you can see.
