Actress Stacey Dash recently appeared on Fox News’ Hannity to give her views on the Affordable Care Act and the Democratic Party. The Fox political contributor threw some shade at President Obama and maintained previous views, saying, “It still keeps them stuck. They are getting money for free.” In addition to Dash, it turns out there is an interesting record of black celebs who criticized President Obama.
In 2008, there was general assumption that every black person eligible to vote would cast his or her ballot for Barack Obama, but the former Illinois senator has been taken to task by a myriad of entertainers based on his foreign policy record and other factors. On his 2011 track, “Lasers,” fellow Chicagoan Lupe Fiasco took umbrage with President Obama for his track record in regards to the Gaza Strip. In June of 2011, he infamously called Obama the “biggest terrorist” during an appearance on the CBS News show What’s Trending.
DMX showed out in a 2008 XXL interview. When asked about Obama, X picked the shallowest issue—Obama’s name. “Where he from, Africa?” X asked, before going on a profanity-laced rant about the origins of the name Obama.
In the midst of a promo run earlier this year, Kanye West said President Obama “can’t effect change from inside the White House like that.” He also, presumably jokingly, said the POTUS should keep Kim Kardashian’s name out of his mouth.
On the 2011 track, “Terrorist Threats,” Carson California rapper Ab-Soul didn’t mince words when he rapped, “Dear Barack / I know you just a puppet but I’m giving you props / You lying to the public like it ain’t nothing / And I just love it, I hope it don’t stop.”
In June of 2011, singer, actor and activist Harry Belafonte told CNN, “[Obama] has only listened to the voices that shout the loudest, and it’s all those reckless right-wing forces. It’s almost criminal.”
In June of 2013, Outkast’s Big Boi told Huffington Post he didn’t vote for Barack Obama, instead opting for Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson.
Much like Ab-Soul, Killer Mike called out President Obama as merely a figurehead. On the 2012 track “Reagan,” Mike referred to Presidents Bush, Clinton and Obama as “talking heads telling lies on teleprompters.”
In 2009, KRS-One admonished voters to be weary of all politicians including Obama. “Just because we have an African American President doesn’t mean that he’s not going to continue the Bush Agenda,” KRS said. “I’m not dissing anybody, but a politician is a politician.”
In an interview with RT Network’s Anastasia Churkina, dead.pres rapper M-1 referred to Obama as a cog in a larger oppressive system. He added that Obama spent more on war than his predecessor, George W. Bush.
Her latest remarks regarding President Obama and the Democratic Party aren’t the first time Stacey Dash has teamed up with Fox News. Back in 2013, Dash told Fox News, “Obama had the opportunity to really unite this country in such a profound way, but instead he has done the opposite.”
