If you don’t respect Common for his contributions to Hip-Hop, then it’s time to reconsider your taste in music. The Chicago MC discussed this and more during his recent visit to The Breakfast Club.
With his new album Nobody’s Smiling just released, Rashid is a man about town. The normally conservative rapper is answering any and all questions which has led to some already interesting discoveries during this publicity run.
DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God dug a bit deeper and asked the Chicago lyricist about the violence plaguing his city, how this album came to be, a previous beef with Drake and more.

1. Chiraq
Common attributes the violence in Chicago to how the youth has been brought up to resolve their problems with gunplay.
2. The Album
The title Nobody’s Smiling is a reflection on Chicago and his effort to give back, and is inspired by a Rakim lyric.
3. Kanye
Common prefers when Kanye is solely focused on making music in order to make the collaboration genuine.
4. The Wedding
Common said even though the KimYe wedding was a very pricey spectacle, he said it had a real family feel.
5. Marriage Material
Common admits that his worst albums were made when he was in a relationship. He would consider marriage if the right girl comes along.
6. Badu Box
Common confessed that dating Erykah Badu was an experience and that the rumors of Badu Box are definitely true.
7. Broadway
Another goal of Common’s is to perform on Broadway musicals. Thoughts?
8. Drake
As he revealed previously, his beef with Drake was over Serena Williams. He felt that Drizzy was sending subliminal shots therefore “Sweet” was created.
9. Justice League
Common was supposed to play The Green Lantern in The Justice League movie but the film fell apart due to a writer’s strike.
10. The Crochet Hats
Common doesn’t blame Badu for his questionable style of dress during the Electric Circus days. He attributes the change to him trying to find himself creatively.
11. Taraji P.
Out of all the women he has dated, Common’s mother liked Taraji the most.
12. Maya
Common had a real friendship with Dr. Maya Angelou. He would go over to her house often to hang out and learn from her.
