Last night (June 25), the Federal College Financial Aid tweeted a photo from Bridesmaids with the words “Help Me. I’m Poor” sprawled across the bottom.  As is to be expected with a blunder like this, Twitter responded with zero ounces of chill.

There’s a good chance that many of the “reactors” cashed a FAFSA check at some point in life, and were genuinely upset that the financial aid company called them “poor.”  The Tweet was probably just a harmless joke (or a reverse plot for publicity) that wasn’t aimed at anyone specifically, but in these tough economic times FAFSA had to know that somebody would be offended.

FAFSA removed the tweet about a two hours after it was posted and replaced with this struggle statement: “We apologize for the insensitive of our previous tweet. Our goal is to make college a reality for all. We’re very sorry.”

Was that apology good enough? Not so much. Twitter has no time for repentance. Check out 15 reactions to FAFSA below.

Also, it’s FAFSA, not FASFA. He wasn’t the only one that made that mistake (keep clicking).
