50 Cent, DMX, Nelly, and others, have opened the door for rappers to sing their own hooks, but when they’re vocal chords get tired, they know exactly who to call. The Dream, Jeremih, and Roscoe Dash are just some who have made a living off their voices, null of any strong vocal ability.
Not that that’s a bad thing. It’s important to know your lane when getting into any industry, so if an artist knows where they fit, and can actually make money in the process, congratulations are in order.
In the case of The Dream, he’s a talented songwriter and producer. Even after taking a feathery jab at The Weeknd for jacking his style, there’s no denying that he can kill a feature—and the rap game has taken notice. Kanye West, Pusha T, Fabolous and more have jumped on tracks with the Radio Killah, which led Hip-Hop Wired to take a look at the singers whose octave range isn’t nearly as strong as their selling power.
Take a look at our list of struggle-voiced singers who are not only running the radio, but have big things on the horizon.
Respect the hustle.

The Dream
Claim To Fame: Writing for everybody that you listen to.
What He’s Cookin’: Having written hits for Beyoncé, Rihanna, Justin Bieber and more, Dream is back on his solo hustle. The Atlanta singer will drop his 1977 album on Dec. 18.
Roscoe Dash
Claim To Fame: Getting “All The Way Turnt Up”
What He’s Cookin’: After voicing his anger over not being properly credited on songs, Dash has brushed himself off. The singer/songwriter/rapper, dropped his J.U.I.C.E. EP late last year, and is currently promoting the project.
Max B
Claim To Fame: Dipset
What’s He’s Cookin’: A prison grilled cheese sandwich.
Jeremih
Claim To Fame: Inventing “Birthday S*x”
What He’s Cookin’: More hits. Being featured on records like Meek Mill’s “Amen,” and Wale’s “That Way,” Jeremih is etching out his musical roadway. His Late Night’s mixtape dropped over the summer, and it’s pure heat.
The Weeknd
Claim To Fame: House of Balloons
What’s He’s Cookin’: The Canadian crooner isn’t really hard up for rap collaborations, which is why he’s so dope. After becoming a mixtape crooning king, he dropped his Trilogy album earlier this week.
