Try as she might to keep the focus on her music, Lil Kim just keeps getting dragged into rap beef. Sure the Queen Bee is known to clap back at just about any other female rapper who steps to her, but now that she’s older she’s trying to keep it professional.
After putting her issues with Nicki Minaj behind her and reaching out to fellow MC of the moment, Azealia Banks, the Brooklyn native found herself smack dab in the middle of a rift with the aforementioned newcomer, via Twitter. Rather than engaging in the foolery, Kim opted to keep her mouth closed until Banks tired herself out. In honor of the ever present female rap beef that has been littering your Twitter screens as of late, we here at Hip-Hop Wired decided to open up the vault to the female rap beef of yesteryear. Check out seven other rap beefs, that didn’t involve Lil Kim.

MC Lyte vs. Antoinette
Long before the Internet was the easiest way to start a fight, MC Lyte took her issues with fellow rapper Antoinette—accused of biting the beat from Audio Two’s “Top Billin” record—to wax. Lyte kicked off her lyrical annihilation by way of 1988’s “10% Dis.” sending a message with this memorable flow: “I thought I ought to tell you, better yet warn/That I am like a stop, and my word is Bond/Like James, killin’ everybody in sight/ The code’s three-six, the name is Lyte.”
Roxanne Shante vs. Everyone she could think of
Roxanne Shante could easily be credited for laying the beef groundwork that Azealia Banks subscribes to. Shante amassed a reputation for battling with just about anyone in sight, a move which peaked when she stepped to Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, and more, on the diss track “Big Mama.” Among the shots landed included threatening to smoke Latifah “like reefer.”
Jackie-O vs. Foxy Brown
Sometimes beef doesn’t stay on wax. Jakcie-O and Foxy Brown threw a few disses at each other that resulted in an all out brawl at a Miami recording studio, in 2005. Foxy claimed to have not been properly acknowledged by Jacki-O when she entered the studio, resulting in the physical altercation. In the aftermath, Jacki-O downplayed Foxy’s anger as unwarranted but given the “Chyna Doll’s” reputation, she should have expected a fight.
Trina vs. Khia
It was Florida vs. Florida when Khia and Trina engrossed themselves in a vicious battle. In one corner was the self-proclaimed “baddest bi***” and on the other side was Khia, a tatted up rhymer who loved to have every inch of her body (including her butt crack) licked. Trina landed the first jab when she dissed Khia on a website promoting her album Still the Baddest, and blasted her during live performances. Both women also had a thing for Hip-Hop reigning baby-making machine, Lil Wayne but never managed to get trapped by his super sperm.
Khia vs. Diamond
Khia proved that she doesn’t play well with anyone when she and Diamond got into a short-lived Twitter beef. Rather than tending to her children, or putting energy into making quality music, Khia dissed Diamond on a video blog. When Soulja Boy’s (ex?) girl got word of the hatred, she took to Twitter calling Khia everything from a “non-spelling a** h*e,” to a “cockroach,” and even made mention of her bullet wounds! Talk about a low blow.
Foxy Brown vs. Nicki Minaj
Foxy Brown jumped on the “every female rapper in the game hates Nicki Minaj” fad taking a shot at Nicki Minaj for no good reason. At the time, Foxy had just started to get the ball rolling on her career resurgence, while Young Money’s one and only Barbie was the hottest female to hit the rap game in recent years. Foxy dropped the record “Massacre” aimed at Nicki, in 2010. Unfortunately her plan backfired because the track failed to make a ripple in the music world and made Foxy look like she was begging for attention.
Remy Ma vs. Lady Luck
Remy Ma and Lady Luck had a lukewarm battle back in 2006. The femcees participated in fight club-style lyrical assault on one another. While the jury is still out as to who came harder, being that Remy is serving eight years in prison (and therefore unable to defend herself), we’ll just call this one a draw.
