Black people and fried chicken is an unshakable stereotype that has gone into overdrive thanks to the countless commercials linking us to our alleged Kryptonite.
Mary J. Blige made the world to let out a collective sigh, when she appeared in a Burger King commercial about a chicken wrap—which has since been pulled. Blige belted out her adoration for the wrap as if it were a longtime lover, but she’s not the only one shucking and jiving for fowl. Part of the problem is too many people are quick to dismiss or remain oblivious to the history behind these deep rooted stereotypes and the harm they cause.
Here are 10 other fade-worthy fried chicken commercial starring Black people. We gotta do better America.

Church’s Chicken threw a bunch of racial stereotypes in a 30-second spot, by having the actor show his love for track suits, sneakers, and hoodies. Once he straps on his “black man uniform,” he lusts over a chicken sandwich like it’s his most successful relationship.

When it comes to chicken and an up-tempo drum beat, Black people just can’t control themselves (read: that was sarcasm). Peep this KFC commercial capturing buffoonery at its finest.http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/js/sb.html5.js
A few years ago, KFC took their racism down under. They featured an Australian cricket fan defusing the awkwardness of being outnumbered by a rowdy Black crowd, by passing around a bucket of chicken.

Popeye’s hired it’s very own Aunt Jemima-esque character to hawk their menu items.Their Chicken Queen Annie (rhymes with Mammy), isn’t necessarily over the top but never too far removed from coonery. She grips chicken pieces like they’re made of pure gold…

Chicken commercials can also be sophisticated in their coonery. Chicken Tonight tapped actor Ian Wright—and his terrible fake British accent—to promote their “Sizzle & Stir” sauce, where he praises the bird, before breaking into song and dance.

MC Hammer loved KFC’s popcorn chicken so much that he couldn’t make it to the stage until “the last chicken was gone.” Poor Hammer was so defenseless to the chicken’s power that it rendered him unable to do his job.

Black people can’t even think about eating chicken without making a mess. Thankfully Popeye’s figured out a way to help ignorant Black folk eat their jalapeno cheddar chicken poppers, by adding built-in flavor– so you don’t have to worry about hot sauce getting all over your fingers.

Australia strikes again with this racist 1992 Chicken Treats ad. The main actor is a loudmouthed, full-lipped, Sambo-style character, who just loves his “chicken ham and cheese” burger.http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/js/sb.html5.js
We don’t like to speak ill of the dead, but Lawanda Page (Sanford & Son) calling 911 because Santa Claus stole her chicken is just ridiculous. Whoever came up this Church’s Chicken commercial needs to be stoned.http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/js/sb.html5.js
Yeah we know they’re not human, but McDonald’s made a mockery of Black people and Hip-Hop all in one swoop. Resembling Kid (of Kid ‘n’ Play) one nugget, in the Run-DMC-style trio, spits a lame verse while Ronald McDonald dances. Seriously, when is it ever necessary for a chicken nugget to rap?http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/js/sb.html5.js
