With the rumor that Busta Rhymes is signing with record label Young Money Cash Money, the internet has been buzzing on whether or not they think this deal is a good one.
However, this isn’t the first confusing and attention grabbing Hip-Hop record deal as of late.
2011 was a strange year for Hip-Hop signings, and reminded us that sometimes a label will spend millions of dollars on a rapper who doesn’t even have an album or mixtape.

The “Gucci Gucci” white woman rapper sensation inked herself a nice deal in 2011 when she signed with Sony Music Entertainment for 1 million dollars.
Oh yea, and that was with no mixtape, no album, and one popular youtube video.

After the success of his youtube classic “Take U To Da Movies,” Bangs was approached by an Australian Record Label for a reported 6 figure deal. Smh…
Papoose
On August 24, 2006, Papoose signed a record deal with Jive Records worth $1.5 million.

The Harlem rapper scored a 3 million dollar deal after releasing just 1 mixtape and a couple of youtube videos.

The trendsetters of the latest series of signing young kids to a big deal early, Odd Future’s deal with RED Distribution/ Sony allowed them to have 100% creative control over all aspects of their music.
Jay-Z
In 2008, Jay had signed one of the largest contracts ever after signing a contract with Live Nation worth $150 million.
According to International Business Times, the deal included an upfront payment of $25 million, a general advance of $25 million, and an advance payment of $10 million an album for a minimum of three albums during a ten year period.
