Whether it was two emcees rocking the stage together or one emcee backed by a dope DJ, Hip-Hop has had a lot of duos that have shown why 2 heads are better than 1.
While Hip-Hop changes the consistency of a good duo has always been around and still is.
Whether you are a fan of Eric B and Rakim, Clipse, or Outkast, no matter what style of Hip-Hop you like, there was a duo for you.
However, the question remains who is the best?
Peep the page #’s of our list and let us know who you think is number 1.
Clipse
One of the most consistent duos over the past decade, these brothers have rapping in the family genes and have no problem showing them off.
While Malice is promoting his new book and Pusha gears up for his first solo album, the Virginia emcees will always be able to hold the title as the best brother Duo in Hip-Hop.
I mean…unless you want to give that title to Master P and Silkk The Shocker -___-
Salt N Pepa
The only female duo to make the list, Salt N Pepa has sold over 15 million albums and singles worldwide.
Salt-N-Pepa is the best selling female rap act, and six of their singles have been certified either platinum or gold.
They haven’t looked too bad doing it either!
Eric B Rakim
One mic and one DJ set was all these two needed to become of the most legendary duos in the history of Hip-Hop.
No gimmicks, just pure talent from the two fed Hip-Hop heads with classic after classic.
By the way, Eric B for President in 2012?
EPMD
EPMD always have and are still taking care of business.
As one of Hip-Hop’s most oft-sampled duos, EPMD has a sound that will never get old and continue to influence rappers for years.
Just ask Jane
BlackStar
I shouldn’t have to explain the dopeness of these two New York emcees to you guys.
Another thing I shouldn’t have to explain is why these two have only put out 1 album!
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s critically acclaimed album Mecca & the Soul Brother still inspires hip-hop heads today.
With hits like “The Main Ingredient,” “Straighten It Out,” and “They Reminisce Over You,” C.L. Smooth and Pete seemed perfect for each other.
While I’m not sure what C.L. would do without a Pete Rock beat, let’s just be thankful that they found each other.
Outkast
In 2004, OutKast became the first hip-hop collective (and the 2nd rap act) to win the prestigious Album of the Year Grammy with their 11x platinum opus, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
Despite their mainstream maneuver, ‘Kast never stopped pushing the envelope.
While I’m not one to believe in rumors, the rumor of a new album coming in 2012 from the two does make me excited.
UGK
Bun B and Pimp C exploded through the industry 20 years ago with their brand of hip-hop.
Pimp C’s production and his melodic timbre and distinctive twang reeked off his dirty south heritage.
Bun B complemented his partner with a technically sound flow, replete with internal rhymes and rewind-worthy metaphors.
The true Underground Kings.
Mobb Deep
These Queensbridge boys know a thing or two about that hard talk Hip-Hop.
The duo is “one of the most critically acclaimed hardcore East Coast hip-hop groups.
The group is best known for its dark, hardcore delivery, as exemplified by the single “Shook Ones Pt. II.
GangStarr
DJ Premier may well be the greatest hip-hop producer of all-time, so when you added Guru then you couldn’t fail.
The legendary duo GangStarr showed what a rap duo was all about for 20 plus years in the game.
While Guru has sadly passed, the music and legacy will always remain.
