Last night in the famed 40/40 Club in New York City, Tity Two Necklaces played the majority of his debut album, Based On A T.R.U. Story for a select group of writers, bloggers, label heads, rappers and more.

While the album was played at a loud and largely inaudible volume in terms of discerning lyrics, there was many takeaways from the album that you can, or can’t look forward to when August 14th rolls around. From production to features, lyrics, and that amazing/awful shirt that 2 Chainz wore at the event, we’ve gathered just enough information to keep your appetite wet for that new Tity Boi.

Hit the jump and check out eight factoids that we took away from the 2 Chainz listening session.

“Like Me” samples The Weeknd’s “The Birds, (Part 1)”

Just like Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J before him, 2 Chainz will sample the elusive crooner from Toronto on his debut album, Based On A T.R.U. Story. The hook on “The Birds (Part 1)” where The Weeknd warns women “not to fall in love with a n***a like me” is looped and sounds pretty good. Despite the fact that it is a bonus track, it is one of the better records on the album.

2 Chainz did a dubstep-inspired record.

Yes, you read that right. The rapper who “Beez In Da Trap” hopped on some euro-inspired dubstep for his debut album. The song sounds surprisingly good on what sounded like Chris Brown on the hook (forgive me, it was a rough venue for a listening session).

The Intro “Yuck! (feat. Lil Wayne)” is a banger.

The album kicks off with a bang as Lil Wayne doesn’t seem to snooze through a verse. If setting the pace for an album is as important to you as a lead-off hitter in a baseball game, the two definitely got on base at their first at bat. This is almost serves as the two coming full circle, as it was Wayne’s hook on the Playaz Circle hit “Duffle Bag Boy” that brought 2 Chainz and Dolla Boy his initial acclaim. Speaking of Playaz Circle…

Playaz Circle reunite on “stop Me Now”

The duo that brought you “Duffle Bag Boy” reunite on Based On A T.R.U. Story. Dolla Boy and Tity Boi take you back to the trap on this record on a hard hitting banger that follows the theme of the entire album.

The R&B features almost steal the show

2 Chainz has never been shy about collaborating with anybody in the past, but on his debut album on Def Jam the R&B features are just excellent. From his collaboration with John Legend “Ghetto Dreams,” to “Extremely Blessed” featuring The-Dream, these are the standouts of the album. “Ghetto Dreams” is introspective and features Scarface while “Extremely Blessed” has a progressively different sound, yet it all works.

“I Luv Dem Strippers (ft. Nicki Minaj)” could have been a Beez In Da Trap remix.

This song was nothing that great, but it caters to exactly who it is supposed to. Who you ask? Come on, you aren’t that slow. When you listen to this record around a throng of genetically enhanced females, this record will definitely make the song feel more complete. Just as “Beez In Da Trap” was strictly for the twerkers, so is this record.

It’s A Fun Album

Listen, this is 2 Chainz we are talking about here. You aren’t going to get lyrical wizardry but you are going to get some clever and charismatic lines from the hair weave killer. Even though he mostly sticks to the script with his trap anthems, he also experiments with records with Mike Posner, Chris Brown, The-Dream and John Legend. It is a fun listen and an album that is meant to be played loud and at ignorant levels. Get your fill of Based On A T.R.U. Story when it hits stores on August 14th.
