Call it an urban myth, or the biggest prank in Hip-Hop, but either way you slice it, the alleged release of Dr. Dre’s Detox album is the biggest question mark in music. Yesterday, 50 Cent  was asked when the album will come out, and to be honest even the G-Unit rapper himself has no clue.

Between his Beats by Dre line, producing records for other people, and his undying commitment to body building, it’s safe to say that Detox is not as important as it used to be. Even worse is the fact that the 47-year-old has toyed with fans’ emotions for well over a decade, announcing one ill-fated release date after another.

Rather than hold on to a dream deferred, it’s time to call Dre’s bluff (and hopefully encourage him to prove us wrong). As painful as it may be to accept, Detox is not coming out, and below are some reasons why.

Too Much Competition

In the more than 10 years since he dropped The Chronic 2001, the music game has drastically changed. Yes, Dre is a trendsetter, but we can’t help but wonder if his trepidation comes from listening to the competition. Whether we want to admit it or not, there’s a very tight circle of rapper’s ruling the game right now, and (even though he shouldn’t be) Dre might be a little intimidated.

He’s Busy Leading The New School.

Eminem will tell you that a co-sign from Dre goes a long way. Now that’s he’s a veteran in the game, the Good Doctor is paying it forward by blessing some of the new cats, like Kendrick Lamar. Being a surrogate big brother is more fulfilling than putting out Detox.

Can’t Keep Track Of All The Verses

Dre’s been in the game for nearly 30 years, so there’s no way that he can keep a hold on all his verses. The recording process has taken so long that most of his ideas are probably lost in translation by now. Not to mention the fact that Eve, Rakim, Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz and many, many more were all on his Aftermath record label at one point. Dre’s got too much on the brain to be worred about Detox.

Suge Knight Will Protest

It’s no secret that Suge Knight and Dr. Dre don’t get along. The former Death Row labelhead attempted to pad his steep fall from grace by pulling just about anyone he could think of down with him, but his hatred for Dre runs deep. Don’t be surprised to see Suge staging a one-man protest just to make sure Detox never sees the light of day.

Headphones Are More Lucrative.

Dr. Dre changed the game with his Beats By Dre products. Sean “Diddy” Combs, 50 Cent, Ludacris, and RZA have all followed in his footsteps, but there’s nothing like the original. Beats has been a major money maker for the Compton native, helping him bring in $110 million last year. With money like that, who has time to detox?

Tupac’s Hologram Is taking Up All The Studio Time

Tupac’s hologram appearance at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival, changed the game for dead rappers. Not only were fans confused (and probably scared) by the thought of seeing the slain rapper in the digital flesh, but the reported $10 million special effects showcase likely made the computerize ghost of ‘Pac hungry for more studio time.

Bodybuilding Is Time Consuming

Dr. Dre’s body has gotten massive over the years. He was never dangerously scrawny, but these days he’s looking less like the West Coast legend we know and love, and more like the Incredible Hulk. Not that there’s anything wrong with hitting the gym, but new music gets pushed down on the list of priorities when your focus is doing push-ups, and drinking gallons of protein shakes.
